“Life is not orderly. No matter how we try to make it so, right in the middle of it lose a leg, fall in love, drop a jar of applesauce.” - Natalie Goldberg
When I worked at Belk it was mandatory 12 hr shifts on BF and we weren't allowed breaks or to leave the building.
Now I know that it probably broke some labor laws or something.
Yeah, you're supposed to be given 30 minutes for 8 hour shift.
A few people I know shop on Thanksgiving night, after dinner, so they don't have to wake up early on Friday but with so many deals available online, is it REALLY worth it?
I figured. I worked there in college so hopefully they changed that by now.

I have a friend that is at Walmart. When someone made a comment about her shopping today, she said that she can't afford Christmas otherwise because they don't make a lot of money, so they have to shop when the prices are best. I still wouldn't go.

I saw in our newspaper that Gander Mountain was open from 8 AM to midnight tonight. Like, seriously? Who is even going to Gander Mountain at 8 in the morning on Thanksgiving Day?
I think it was hbc lat st year that said she had to shop thanksgiving/Black Friday so she could get what her kids wanted and have a good Christmas. It came across very fuck retail people and thier desire for a family holiday.

That varies by state. PA doesn't require breaks by law.
My sister went to a chain jewelry store with her boyfriend so he could buy her an early Christmas present. I would have made a point about her perpetuating consumerism, but I just met the guy today.
I'm too full to even think about moving, let alone walking around shopping. Ugh. Either way, no shopping on Thanksgiving for me, ever! Even Black Friday, unless it's online. I work retail, no way am I going to make other people work harder for me. My store is actually opening LATER than last Black Friday, because used bookstores don't tend to have doorbusters. We are having a 20% off everything sale, though.

I call BS because while you're saving money, it's your choice on your budget and how you want to spend the money. Also, I doubt there are any life changing deals at Walmart on Thanksgiving vs BF.
She posted that she got $800 worth of toys for only $300.
I had someone in my fitting room yelling at her daughter to hurry up because Target was about to open and she pretty much flung clothes at me that she didn't want. Chill out, lady.
My parents had to leave at a certain time today so my mom could drop my dad at home and go get ready to shop. I totally side eyed that. Especially because she worked retail when I was growing up and I can imagine the shit fit she would have thrown if they had to work Thanksgiving back then.
And there was a segment on the nbc news last night about how black friday prices are really not that low because most stores have been having sales for weeks now.
I just really don't like people or shopping for specific things. DH's family goes every year, and every year I choose to sit at home on the couch, with a nice comfy blanket.
