I posted last week about our situation, having custody of my nephew. We had a mediation and a hearing scheduled Thursday and Friday, and I had pretty much no hope of my brother relinquishing his rights, since this has been going on for 2 years now, but he did!
He signed irrevocable paperwork giving the state permanent custody of all 3 of his children (my sister is raising the younger 2). Now we get to adopt, my sister gets to adopt the twins, and they will be raised knowing that they are all brothers, but that this was the best thing at the time.
I am super happy, and just wanted to share. We still have some hoops to go through, and it will probably be closer to 6 months before we can finalize adoption, but there is no danger of him being taken from us. I will, from now on, be referring to him as DS
That's great! Congrats! How old are the kids? Do you live near your sister?
Thanks DS is 2.5; he will be 3 in December. He has twin brothers that are only 8 months younger than him - they turned 2 this month. They were born at 26 weeks and have lived with my sister since their release from NICU.
Right now I live about 3 hours from my sister, and the boys are seeing each other about once a month. It's not ideal, but it is where we lived when all of this came about, and we have 18 months-2 years left here. At that point we hope/plan to move so that we will only be an hour away. The kids will still be young enough at that point to really grow up together.

That's great. Those kids are super luck to have you and your sister.
