So much of that broke my heart. It's all interconnected, this, my thread. Men do not respect women. You don't treat human beings like that. And I don't even completely blame the military culture, you don't treat women like that without being raised to do so.
It's more than just respect. Men are seeing these women as sub-human. I think in Korea there may be some racism involved too, but obviously this kind of thing goes on around US bases too. These men see women as LESS THAN HUMAN. I agree Stan, they must be picking this up from a very young age.
Also? Just look closely at advertisements. I saw a recent Victoria's Secret catalog where most of the women's faces were covered with objects. THE WOMEN HAD NO FACES. In one shot, the woman had a lamp shade over her head. She was LITERALLY DEPICTED AS AN OBJECT. Makes me sick.
This is absolutely spot on from what I've seen in Korea. The off-limits lists change monthly, but many of the clubs change their names once they get on the list and slide through the cracks. I worked on post at a financial institution and every Monday, without fail, the same 5 or 6 soldiers would come in with fraud reports on their accounts from the same club running their cards multiple times. They would come in on Fridays for loans or cash advances to get them through the weekend. They really don't see these women as women, instead they are all purely referred to as "juicy girls." It's so sad and sickening and I don't think enough is being done to combat the issue.
