Second day on the new job and I think I'm really doing to like it. They can't get my email and smart phone up and running, which is a bummer, but we'll get there. The one bummer is that my office is above a bar and Idaho still allows smoking in bars, so it smells like stale cigarettes in here. I have the front door wide open.
I'm bored. All of my student related activities are done for the semester, so I'm working on some stuff for next semester and I'm having trouble staying motivated since I have 3+ full weeks of a clear schedule ahead of me. Like, I don't want to get all my work done this week and have literally nothing to do for the next 3 weeks
I think it's also boring me because I'm not usually at my desk all day, alone. I'm usually running around and interacting with people so sitting and working all day is tough.
I am wrapping things up before I leave for the wedding in India tomorrow! It should be a ton of fun. BFF has been texting me pictures of her outfits and the adventures she has been having. I almost screwed up my airport transfer to the hotel, but that seems to be resolved.
My mom never decorated for Christmas until after my birthday, so in honor of that I decorated my house for Christmas this morning before 630 am more because I wanted to get it out of the way rather than because it's something I enjoy.
We haven't put up our inside tree yet, mostly because boy kitty is a maniac.
Mr. P was sent a position that a recruiter encouraged him to apply for in Alaska. EEEEkkkk. He says he'd rather live in Alaska than West Texas. I guess it would be an adventure for a while? Let's hope it doesn't come to that. He's got a couple of things going in Houston.
Back in October, there were over 200k people laid off and it has gotten worse. It's pretty terrifying.
Movers are loading our things in the truck today, realized we needed specific bolts to secure our washer drum, went to get those and got rear ended. The woman was yelling at me from inside the car, wouldn't give me her information, so I called the police. Had to wait around for him to arrive but got it all sorted out. Car and I are both fine. And the kicker, closing is delayed until the 15th. Ugh.

My SFIL worked in Alaska in the '80s. It was really weird. Mandatory 7-12s for like two months, then you get three weeks off. Or something. He was in construction, though, and he already lived in Seattle, and a fair number of people live that life.
I would say "you could live in Seattle and Mr. Pom can fly back during his time off", but if he's in O&G and in Alaska more often than not forever, that doesn't sound so good. Plus the rent is too damn high now.
Anyway, something to kinda sorta consider. There are Republicans in the suburbs
Pom , I would love to live for a few years in Alaska! Would it at least be a good part? I hope he finds something closer though for your sake.
womet , OMG, glad you're okay! What a weirdo person to not give you info.
H brought me flowers because he was kind of a wanker when he got home from work last night. But he got home at 0100 and went back to work at 0700 so I can't be too mad at him.
Yay for your H...he is wise enough to come up with flowers, LOL.
Anchorage. He'd be in the office, not the field. I hate being that far from my family and especially my parents, although they love Alaska. However, they are getting too old to make that trip. Upside: Cheap flights to Hawaii? LOL. Hey, We can make "most" anything work, especially for the right dollar figure. It would be kind of cool for a little while. Although after living in Northern Michigan for years, I am really not in a rush to endure a long winter.

Cruise ship from Seattle!
I don't know why, but now I really want to see this happen.
Someone brought in a tub of Christmas lights, and the 20 or so people in my immediate area wrapped every cubicle in lights. It's kinda awesome. I'd post a picture but I think there'd be identifying information.

My parents are so funny. They both have considerable means, but the idea of going on a cruise ship is so not their style. They both turn 80 next year and probably 20 years ago, they drove to Alaska through Canada and spent probably 2 months on the Alaskan Highway and traveling. They took their big diesel truck with a truck camper (lol). I remember getting a picture of them washing the truck windows by a creek, because it was so dirty and rough. They are true adventurers. I aspire to be like them, but I like a few more creature comforts.
@idaholakelady - Ugh about the smoke. Can you get an air purifier or something?
I'm not sure? I mean, I don't even know what to look for. Candles? This issue is so foreign to me that I have no idea what people did in the olden days!

In the olden days everyone smoked! Lol. I think some sort of small appliance is what you need. I don't know of an exact make or model, but I bet you could find something at Bed, Bath & Beyond or of course on Amazon. Candles might just cause another issue (fire hazard, or offend someone else).

I can't imagine doing this at age 35!
Of course, the idea of backpacking parts of the Continental Divide Trail -- including the parts where you have to mail supplies to yourself because that's the only way to get enough food/water/stove fuel -- sounds perfectly sane to me, so ...
ETA I have heard Anchorage is kinda fun. I mean, it's 200K people, but one of two big towns in Alaska.
We went out for sushi for my birthday last night. They have a giant light up wheel you get to spin on your birthday (super fun surprise). THree separate employees had to verify my id before I got to spin it, which seemed a little extreme when the top prize was $5 and the majority of spaces were for a high five or lollipop.
I stopped at Target during lunch to get a glove I'd lost. I heard the Target lady exclaiming as I left "Did you SEE that?! That NEVER happens!!!!" because my glove was indeed there.
Our insurance bills just came in the mail for the first week of January. They are high because we both have new cars now. I really should shop around for better quotes, right? Especially since we're not loyal to the agent anymore; his office is 20 mins away AND he just retired so we have a new guy. I just need someone to tell me who is better than State Farm in Michigan.
