So far M has only had fruits & veggies. I don't think he's bored yet but I feel like we offer the same things over & over. Sweet potato & avocado seem to be our "go to" foods. He's also had nectarine, mango, carrot & cucumber.
When did you offer: cheese yogurt bread eggs meat
Also we're doing BLW, DS has been doing well. He'll try anything. However I feel like I'm failing at it. Last night he had cucumber, he managed to bit off a chunk & I got nervous. He wasn't gagging but I still fished it out of his mouth & then stopped feeding him. Poor guy was mad when I took the food away but got over it quickly when we went to play with his toys.
ETA: I was nervous because a few days before he had mango & was coughing/gagging on a chunk.
Letting him try is the only way he'll learn right? DH has suggested we do purees but that's only prolonging it right...eventually he's going to have real food & we'll go through this stage right?
We offered everything right away. Whatever we were eating, I tried to keep some for him without salt/sugar and let him try it. Meat and eggs especially, as BF babies need the iron.
Any time DS got a chunk, he either chewed it or spat it out. We've only had one gag-until-he-puked, and that was gross but not dangerous.
BLW didn't work for us for the same reasons. DS got coconut yogurt at 8.5 months. He still can't have cheese. Around the same time he had bread ( sprouted) spread with hummus. He started purred meats at 9.5 months. Still no eggs. DS has MSPI though so we move slow for him.
I would talk with your ped - does anyone have a history of allergies? You might want to start with just the yolk, but we did cheese/yogurt/bread/eggs/meat by 7 months. If you aren't comfortable with him biting off chunks then it's okay to do purees - it's not going to hurt.

We started meat at 6, but then DS boycotted everything. We started everything else at 9 (when he started to eat a bit again). But I think he is allergic to eggs.
We no longer do big peices of food (I cut everything up in small pea sizes for him to grab). But he gags more on that than he ever did when he bit off big chunks with BLW. Actually I had to perform the hemlich over tofu the other day. He has what we call chipmunk disorder, where he likes to cram all the food in his mouth and not swallow. Then he laughs. It is a disaster.

I've read that the slimy foods (mango) are the ones that are easier to choke on. But once they start slobbering over anything it gets slimy, so I don't know...

We did purees in the start and now we do bite size chunks because she insists on feeding herself We gave cereal and purees at 5mths and started meat at 6 mths. I only did chicken at first and I pureed it with apple or pear otherwise it was dry and grainy. She may not have cared. We started eggs at 7.5 mths. Rice is a good one that they can pick up. She also loves pancakes. And bread. (mostly because she steals from me)
We did bread, cheese, and meat (shredded chicken) around 7 months. Yogurt and eggs around 8 or 9 months.
My DH has a ton of serious food allergies, and his allergist was still fine with us introducing those things to the kids as long as we spaced out new foods and watched for signs of reactions. His take was that for every study that suggests delaying exposure, there is another suggesting that early exposure may be beneficial or that delaying doesn't matter. So I just fed my kids and didn't worry about it too much.
