It's been raining constantly, and our mail has been sopping wet by the time we get home every day. Then, we checked the mail today and found the mailbox empty. We wouldn't normally consider that weird, except that one of our neighbors came by later and gave us a piece of our mail that they said they found in the middle of the street. It was a Christmas card from a WCer and it was completely drenched.
We've always lived in placed with locked community USPS boxes. What are the chances that the postman dropped our only piece of mail for the day versus the chances that someone stole the mail out of our box? What kind of mailbox do you have? Does it have a lock on it? Does it keep your mail dry?
I'm seriously so annoyed that this is yet another thing I have to spend time worrying about this week. H doesn't have time to install a new mailbox until this weekend at the earliest, but we have checks we're expecting to be delivered soon and I'm terrified that someone is going to swipe them or they're going to get ruined.
Our current mailbox is beside our front door, under a porch roof so it is protected from rain. However my parent's is traditional and has never once soaked the mail in the 20+ years I lived at home. I think you need to buy a new one. They've had plastic and metal with no issues.
We still have the mailbox from the builder when we bought last year. It gets wet It's on DH's radar to fix....the mailman doesn't shut the door very well and I think things get in that way.
ewall - H ended up having time to buy a new one this afternoon and he got it all set up. It has a seal around the door, so hopefully our mail will be nice and dry from now on.
It also has a lock on it, just in case someone did decide to go through our mail yesterday.

Lol, you guys are waaaaayyyy ahead of me and my H. We (okay, I) bought the mailbox and it sat in the garage foreverrrrrr until I threw a fit and H "agreed" to help me with it. OMG then the actual install was quite the test for our young marriage.
I'm jealous. At the townhouse we had the community mailbox down the street. Finally have a house and we have to have matching individual mailboxes. There goes my dream of having a plastic one!
