I feel like once you have five, what's one more? But her poor poor uterus.
Lol, I agree with this. My BFF growing up has 12 siblings, after a while the older ones take over care of the younger ones pretty well.
She has 12 siblings (13 in her family) so she wants to have lots of kids too. I feel sorry for the kids though, since they get very little attention now with only 5 (I think I've posted here before how they use their trampoline as a "pack n play"--they take the younger kids outside, put them in the trampoline and zip it closed. The kids sit out there for an hour + with no supervision. They also play in the pool with no adult around)
I think no matter what your kids ages it would be virtually impossible to go back to work with 5 kids.
ITA: I have a grad school classmate who has 5 and opened her own practice between #4 and #5. :-| She amazes me. I couldn't do it. I've decided her level of chaos tolerance is just much, much higher than mine.

She is a nurse, and I think he wanted her to try to get a job working a few nights/weekends, but yeah, I still don't know how that would work.

A supportive DH (eta: partner, whatever) is a big part of the equation, I think: my friend's DH is also practicing and I think plays a big role in juggling things, but it's her name on the practice. She's super driven, obviously, but there are only so many hours in the day! I can't see even trying it: DH and I would go crazy.
My friend had 6 in like 7yrs...her first was twins & all singles after that. She went back to work as an RN a year or 2 after the youngest was born. I like big families but that many little kids would drive me freaking insane. My Mom went back to work Full-time with 5 kids (part time before that) when my little sibling went to Kindergarten. There was a 12yr gap between kid #1 & #5.
