I read something about a trans woman being forced into a male prison and taking her life. Very sad.
What do you think? Should trans people who happen to find themselves in prison go to their biological gender prison or to whatever genitalia try presently have. So if a trans person now has a vagina they go to a female prison and so on.
But what about people that are on hormones but haven't had gender reassignment surgery yet, try have breasts but a penis still. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about the rules that are followed Id like to know about this topic.
I believe there have been rulings about this. It has to do with gender identity, not biology or genitalia. So if you identify as female, you go to a women's prison, and vice verse. Now, there are some incidents where transgender inmates need to be in protective custody, but that's just a consequence of treating people like humans. If you need to pay for protective custody, oh well.
There have also been cases where transgender inmates have sued for reassignment surgery under the prison health care system. The prison heath care system tends to be not great/bare minimum care, but I believe it's been determined that denying gender reassignment surgery when requested is a form of psychological torture.
