Looking for NOLA tips (kid friendly version)

I have really been getting the itch to go to NOLA, but probably not until fall 2013. Anyone want to help me day dream a 4(ish) day itinerary, that is friendly for a 3yo. Sight seeing, and of course food recs!

The Audubon Institute (zoo, aquarium, and insectarium) is nice. Zoo is at the end of Magazine street, and the aquarium and insectarium are downtown, maybe 2-3 blocks from each other (definitely a walkable distance, or you could use the streetcar).
I've also taken my brother to Mardi Gras world (he was about 8-10), and he enjoyed that too. There is a ferry that goes from the riverwalk (where the aquarium is) across the river to Algiers where Mardi Gras world has a free shuttle to their location.

Thanks! Any restaurant recs? Do you think 4 days is a good amoutn of time? Also, I mentioned fall, but what time of year do yout hink is a good time?

Fall is my favorite because it is a little cooler...hurricane season is over. i think 4 days is perfect.
