How old is your kid? Do you plan to use the three day method? Can they tell you they need to go? Can they pull their pants up and down?
We started with underwear while we were at home. She wanted to wear them so we went with it.
I was thinking of doing this around Xmas when he'll be 2 years 7 months.
I want a magic story of PT like I think thebreakfastclub had where she said she waited so that her DS was PT in 1/2 a day. When I read "we are on our first month of PT" I want to diiiiiiie.

Advise me, wise ones. Advise me.
We did this with DS1. One day he came up to us and said something like "I want to use the potty now" and it just worked from there. We were kind of astonished because we thought it was going to take a fight to get him to do it, lol. He was around 3 at the time and never had any accidents after that. It was just luck though. If that hadn't happened, we would have had to get serious about it.
With the other two, I started putting them in pull ups around the time I thought they were ready and treated them like underwear. Pulled on and off for the potty etc. It was just so I wouldn't have to deal with actual accidents (poop in underwear). I know people say not to do that but it worked fine for us. They both trained in a couple of days. Again, they were were around 3. It's much easier imo if you wait until they are really ready (which can certainly be earlier, it was just later in their cases).
Best advice: whatever you do, don't let it turn into a power struggle because you can't win that one. If he doesn't want to do it, I'd back off until he does.

+1 on littlemoxie's method. I guaranteed a 9am pee with half a can of Sprite at 7am, and then we were off and running. We are disciples of the Oh Crap! method. We did continue to use a diaper or pull up for naps for about 3 months, but within a few weeks, DS would wake up dry from naps. He is dry overnight 90% of the time now as well.
I would have quit if DS had truly spazzed at the potty, but I pushed through tears and him saying he didn't want to for the first 2 hours.
I have the 3 day pdf if you want to PM me your email. DD will be 3 next week and she just became potty trained over Thanksgiving. She's been sitting on the potty before bed since she was 18 months and more aggressively in the last few months. She also sees the 2 older kids use the potty all the time and that helped. She was potty trained in 3 days and has had 2 major accidents since Thanksgiving. I don't count the little leaks as she is rushing to the bathroom.
