I try and keep it under $12 but closer to $10 for every day drinking. I hoard wine when it goes on sale. I just bought a case of a red that scored 92 points. I think it was regularly $14 something on sale for $11 and I got another 20% off because I bought 12.
I have enjoyed that wine. IME it's hard to find good California Cabs much less than that. However it's easier to find other varietals that have similar flavors at a lower price point.
Some easy to find recommendations: Ravenswood Petit Sirah or (red) Zinfandel Apothic Dark (or Apothic Red - but I prefer Dark)
Lately it's been $10-15 a bottle just because I'm into my case of Beaujolais Nouveau. We have plenty of $30 and up bottles in the house that aren't for any sort of special occasion. I'd just much rather drink good wine at home than pay more than twice as much for the same bottle at a restaurant or the same amount for a few glasses of something nowhere near as nice.
