Redbox? Check to make sure there aren't any grocery stores, drug stores, or whatnot that do video rental near you? (I was surprised to find we have a gas station with a pretty awesome dvd rental library).
I have been looking recently, since my son is Star Wars obsessed, and couldn't find anything. Apparently you can't rent them:http://www.zimbio.com/Beyond+the+Box+Office/articles/LSve_fZydHY/Can+Rent+Star+Wars+Online+Reason+Can+t
So annoying. He has seen the first one because we purchased it off Amazon, but I hate to think that the only way to see the whole series is to pay $100. Would love to hear if anyone else has any tips.
We were trying to do the same thing. MH wound up giving up and buying the box set (episodes 4-6, we're not going to bother with 1-3 right now) from Target for $40.
Can your friends loan you their copy?
Craigslist, maybe? Or check out a music store for a used copy. Look in thrift shops, too. Especially if you have a VCR because you may be able to find the VHS tapes for cheap as opposed to the DVDs.
I recently bought episodes 4-6 on Amazon for $34. Not sure what they are now, but Costco had them for $40 along with 1-3 for $40. We used to have all six but I couldn't find 4-6, or 2. But 2 sucks so I decided just to replace 4-6.
I'm surprised they aren't playing them on cable/satellite yet. You would think that stations like TBS or F/X would be all over those type of movies.
I personally can't wait until the movie opens so we can calm it down with all the Star Wars crap they are trying to push. EVERYTING is Star Wars related. Even my 3 year old is going nuts over "Star Hors" and he's never seen any of the movies.
Yeah I remember the day when you could always find them playing on cable. I went looking through the programming guide for them awhile back and was disappointed when I couldn't find them, so I was a ripe candidate when the whole digital series came out.
