Thank you for moving away from giant gifts for DD for Christmas. Although I am side eyeing the 3' across flower pillow. But now we need to talk books. We still haven't given her half the ones you got her last year. Now I just wrapped 9 more, because putting them under the tree in a trash bag won't work for me. I still have 2 more to wrap, plus a collection of 12 mini books. And I know there are more downstairs to sort through.
And also, don't be surprised if DD makes a stink about half of these books that you got from your old school library 10 years ago. She will wonder why there are dirty old books under the tree. Because she's 5
ETA: 5 of those mini books are repeats of what I just wrapped. Why MIL, WHY???
Can you just put them in a gift bag? Or wrap a bunch in a stack? Tell her they are vintage books, so they will be more special. I don't see anything wrong with used books.
Put them in a gift back or wait til your MIL gets there and have her wrap them. I can think of a million things worse than receiving used books. Like the Elsa karaoke machine coming my DD's way.
Can you ask her if you can wrap only the new books? And have her give your DD the old books later as an, "oh, I had these and thought you might enjoy them." type of thing. Not as a gift per se?
I have no issue with the used books, DD may hurt MIL's feelings by saying something.
I avoid gifts bags because MIL uses them and she's BEC, and these books are heavy. Plus I'm just venting. A shitton of gifts is her love language, I can't fight it

I would donate them after she leaves, but I am mean like that. My mom sort of does the same thing. She goes to a lot of used book sales and buys a ton of books for DS. They are nice books, but we reallllly don't need them and I always end up donating a bunch.

This. And I loooooove books. But I'm particular. I don't just want the crap you found 20 for a dollar at the library sale last week with no thought as to whether they are age-appropriate or interesting in the least.
