Recently pregnant mommas can you explain this to me? I am just curious.
When I was pregnant four years ago you had to wait until 20 week ultra sound to find out gender unless you were over 35 and then you get some test at blank weeks and you can find out?
Now it seems my recently pregnant younger friends have found out earlier. My sister found out at I think 12 weeks and she's 31. I had another friend find out early too and she's 29. Is it because they are high risk or is this an option for all momma's now? Just curious.

Two of my recently pregnant friends found out the sex of their babies at 12-13 weeks through genetic testing. I don't know the circumstances behind one (ie. if they paid extra for it), but for the other, she wanted testing for Jewish genes / diseases (ie. Tay-Sachs).
There is a second level of genetic screening that is a blood test and it also happens to reveal the gender. My doctor told me a lot of other doctors have been ordering it unnecessarily to "be cool" but he wouldn't order it unless required for genetic concerns.
