I guess not technically an overdraft, but when I graduated from college I went and closed my account at the bank near school since I was moving back home and this bank was no longer going to be local to me. I had ordered a gift online about a week prior and thought the charge had already hit my account. I even asked the teller and she said it was showing up and the money was taken out. So I close out my account, cashing out the entire amount that was in there.
A month later, I get a notice that I my old account is in the red $50... the amount of the gift I had ordered. Turns out, the charge hit 2 days after I had closed the account and taken all the money out. Oops. Luckily there were no fees. I quickly paid it.
I don't think I have ever over drafted my own, but I over drafted my mom's like 2 weeks ago. I am in charge of her finances and forgot to transfer money. Oops!
Sometime within the last year, but it's not my primary account. It's an old account that I still have one auto draft payment coming out of and I forgot to deposit enough money in the account. I received an alert and went to make the deposit before the end of the day, so I wasn't charged any fees. Typing this out made me decide to switch the auto debit to my regular account, so thanks.
Eta - I have to call, I can't do it online, I think this is how I ended up not switching it in the first place lol.
I put "never" but realized after I answered that we did have an issue when we were closing an account and transferring money to vanguard. Somehow they had done the withdrawal twice (maybe my error?) and the account was overdrawn in excess of $10k.
Imagine my surprise and horror when I saw that. Also the fees were astronomical and we didn't notice it right away since we assumed the account was closed out. Thankfully the bank took care of everything because it was an honest mistake but goodness that was terrifying!

I did all the time in college (never bounced checks but would overdraft atm/debit purchases) because I would run out of money before I ran out of month and needed food/gas. I bank at a credit union, so I never had any overdraft fees. I don't miss those days at all!
The last time I over drafted my account, it was more like 15 years ago and it was not my fault. I deposited a $2000 check that got credited as $20. I paid my car insurance, bought groceries and picked up dry cleaning when I got a notice from the lien holder that as my car insurance was canceled due to non payment, they were going to insure it and it was going to cost me $XXX more per month plus my car payment.
I bank with USAA and they fixed everything with everyone, and cc'ed me in on all the correspondence that they screwed up and the bad checks were not my fault. That was really good, as my insurance company was no longer going to accept a personal check from me.
Well we have the Overdraft protection on the main checking one which goes onto a CC linked to the account. That happens fairly regularly..a couple times a year maybe? Usually we try and catch it & transfer money to intercept it but don't always make it. We have a lot of accounts...at least 3 checking, 5 savings plus investment, etc & a million expenses & neither of us are really on top of it.
I overdrafted several times with fees when I was single because I never kept a check register & never had much cushion. I usually had OD protection when available. I haven't actually bounced a check or had a payment denied. My Dad (who was the VP of my bank) covered my ass in college a lot because he watched my account & would put some in if I was about to go over.
I answered 5+ years ago, but I do forget to pay part of my mortgage on the regular. I finally had to arrange auto-deduct to get it taken care of. Aye, me, pillar of financial virture, indeed.
Using my overdraft account? Last week, just timing of paychecks and bills and it was planned/paid back as soon as funds cleared.
Actually going beyond the over draft account and getting hit with fees? Several years ago--I was doing a cc payment and accidentally checked 'pay entire balance' instead of 'different amount,' and didn't catch it at all. It hit my account three times until they stopped trying, such a mess.
