Yesterday out of the blue I got an email from Fleet and Family in the city where I currently reside. The city I went through great mental anguish and $$$ to move myself to without the Navy's help just so that I could have more support during my husband's year long absence. So I kindly asked why suddenly I was getting these emails and she responded that when she received my file it was sent to "emergency contact only". So I responded that actually for the time that's left I would welcome any information or invitations to events that I can bring a two year old to.
Because secretly I'm crying at my desk that a status on a file is the reason why someone thought a lady all alone with a two year old wanted to be ignored for almost a year. And last night I found out that the new assignment my husband is going to report to next year is going to do a bunch of work ups and then deploy within less than a year of his getting home and as much as I want to put on a brave face for DH secretly I'm gutted that we're not even past this shitstorm of a deployment before I get to begin thinking about the next one. He was originally penciled in for a different carrier that would just be getting back from deployment but they switched him without any apparent reason. And meanwhile someone else I know whose husband just reported to a carrier is telling me that their FRG is practically nonexistent. I only hope that this other carrier is different because I can't even begin to say how much I miss the "family" feeling I had with the families on the submarine.
Ugh, its tough. I know you say they don't have a great frg. Would you be willing to volunteer to do it? Ours was basically nothing when I decided to do it with two other women. It gave me a focus and something to accomplish while he was gone.

Hugs.
I haven't heard anything about the same carrier he's penciled in for. It's just what I'm being told about other ones. I won't really know the climate until DH gets his orders and reports. I've been an FRG officer before so I know the ups and downs of it. I wouldn't mind taking a major role but I wouldn't want to be the top person like the chair/president. At that point I'd rather just make friends and do our own thing.
