I thought that JJ Abrahms did a poor job with Star Trek Into Darkness so I don't have high hopes for Star Wars. I thought Star TREK was a pretty generic action flick considering how rich the Trek universe is. I'm worried that Star Wars will get the same treatment.
I thought it was good! Unfortunately I'm not a Trek fan so I can't really compare it to the new Trek movies from that perspective. I am a big Star Wars fan and tried not to go into it with unrealistic expectations and I enjoyed it. I think even a picky fan would say it's better than the prequels.
I enjoyed it, but I did feel it was missing a bit of the magic of the original trilogy. At first I thought that was just because I'm older and don't have the childlike wonder I had when seeing the first ones, but then someone pointed out that VII doesn't have the same mythology feel of the original trilogy. VII is an enjoyable film set in the Star Wars universe, but I don't think it speaks to the viewer on the same innate level.
So: Definitely good, but still keep your expectations in check.
