Maria Pantazopoulos, 30, fell into the water during a 'trash-the-dress' photo shoot in Rawdon, Que., and drowned when the soaked garment weighed her down.
Her family is demanding that authorities block off access to the river near Dorwin Falls, 75 km north of Montreal.
"If Dorwin Falls is so dangerous, they should put up a fence," said family spokeswoman Leeza Pouhoulidis. "They should protect people. It's not enough to have a small sign."
The sign warns that swimming is prohibited but the warnings are routinely ignored by swimmers.
While I do not agree with the family, and I wholeheartedly agree that in some cases no amount of fences or signs will prevent people from doing something potentially catastrophic, I feel for her family. It's clear they are looking to blame someone or something - because it's too painful to blame their daughter for what amounts to an accident.
Well, the government is responsible for everything that goes wrong, and talented individuals are responsible for everything that goes right, so it does stand to reason.
That said, I do feel for the family that is clearly reeling from the unexpected loss of a loved one.

Exactly. I would think they are just in major shock right now.
Because fencing off all running and/or deep water is totally a feasible option. I'm sure they are just grasping for somebody to blame here, but this is just silly. Poor family.

Then again, its Quebec.
Hmm. Quebec's reputation hasn't travelled as far and wide as you might think it has. They got poutine and Montreal. Wtf could possibly be wrong with Quebec?!

Agreed. Remember those poor, idiot kids who were swept over the falls in Yosemite? People forget that nature is not an amusement park where everything is safe.

I feel for the family too. They lost someone so tragically, and in hindsight, stupidly. (Because honestly, who sees red flags when a TTD phit shoot is mentioned) For years, they will have a sense of shame when they have to say " she drowned" tight- lipped when they mention her. So, they are instead trying to honor her memory a little. If this is a dangerous spot where people routinely swim against warning then I can see the desire to put up a fence. If it was all about blame, they would go after the photographer ( and maybe they will)

If we fenced off all the dangerous areas, we would not be able to go anywhere. And if we did, we would have to look at nature through fucking fences, and who wants that? I know that if I am going to hike up a mountain to look at the beautiful waterfall, I want an unobstructed view.
