I agree with a few hours early. People are being nuts about this show. Someone on my FB posted yesterday, at 5, that the top section of the theater was completely full for the 7:00 show and that there were already people in line for the next showing.
Depends on the theater. We went to a fairly small theater and we got there at 6:30 for a 1:30 showing and there were 4 people in line. By 7:30 there were 8 people in line. I'd say in general, 2 hours is probably good. It was fun to talk to people in line.
It already has a 95% rating on rotten tomatoes. Pretty sure this is going to be record breaking. Everyone has said it's amazing.
I guess it would depend on how large your theater is and how many screens it's showing on. Small theater, get there EARLY. Our theater (reserved seats) has 30 screens and there's a show starting every 15 minutes so even without reserved seats, you wouldn't need to get there as early as a theater only showing it on one or two screens.

We went to the 7pm show last night and got in line a little before six. We ended up a lot closer to the screen than I would have liked. Not that it kept me from thoroughly enjoying myself.

I'm trying to think of anything I'd wait in line for five hours for and coming up empty.
oh man...the stories I could tell you about Duran Duran. Yeah. When they were at the house of blues in Chicago, it was general admission, I got in line around 11am for a 8pm show. Got 2nd row center though.
omg, I just remembered in 1997 I attended a Star Wars Convention in London with my study abroad roommate. I stood in line forever to get autographs of Chewbacca and Bobba Fet. I have photos with a few Ewok actors too. ha! I'll have to dig through to find those photos.
Where are these fancy theaters with bars and reserved seating? Lol.
We have an AMC theater near us that has a bar, reserved seating and recliners. It's amazing and has spoiled me from any other theater. We also have a couple of Cinebarre's, which have food and booze and waiter service, but I don't like them very much.
We got to our theater a little before 6pm yesterday for an 8:10 show. They were already letting people into the theater at that point though to claim seats. Our seats were pretty good, people coming in after 7:30 were not finding much.
