OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey girl called 911 after she touched her elf on the shelf.
Police say 7-year-old Isabelle LaPeruta of Old Bridge was worried because, according to the popular children's book, the magic of Christmas goes away if the elf is touched.
WNBC-TV (http://bit.ly/1PjkSvg ) reports the girl told the 911 operator not to come to her house because she was trying to call her dad.
However, police are required to check 911 calls and an officer found the child in tears.
Her mother, Lynanne, says she awoke from a nap to find her daughter trying to shoo an officer out of the house. She says the girl panicked when the elf fell on the floor when she threw a ball.
The officer radioed headquarters: "Isabella apologized. She touched the Elf on a Shelf. She won't call 911 again."
rumor has it the cops offered to contact santa to give her a pass.
yet another reason that fucking thing is never coming into my home.
I probably shouldn't loudly bitch about them everytime I see them being sold, calling them Santa's fake little spies and asking why parents would tell their kids that those creepy little things are real.
My takeaway is how did the mom manage to get in a nap? My kids would never allow that.
Maybe she was napping while the kid napped and her daughter just woke up before her?
This right here is why I cam never leave my house when all the boys are napping. B had woken up and walked out of his room without waking H - and H naps with him!

I often doze while my son sleeps. And I sleep like the dead (in college H used to carry me out of the dorm if the fire alarm went off because I wouldn't wake up). I can easily see this happening.

Sometimes it is the children telling you, and wanting that to be the case. Sigh. I was right with you on the smug no elf train until a few weeks ago when my daughter wrote to Santa asking for a "good, girl elf". She was just so sure the elf would show up I just could not bring myself to break her heart about it. We had lots of conversations about how if I thought the elf was spying on anyone, I was touching her and she was going home. I still caught my daughter whispering to her little sister that the elf was there to report back to Santa and she was happy about it. Little PIA.
Every day I am in fear that the elf will somehow come in contact with the dog and my daughter will find her chewed, mangled body. I can only imagine the tears and the panic! This article both cracked me up and made me nervous. LOL
