Just an FYI. Kinder registration often starts very early. Our orientation is Jan. 20. If you are starting kinder, it is a good idea to check the dates now. Especially if you need before/after school care. People are already calling to get on the list for ours.
This is seriously stressing me out. We are moving houses before kindergarten to be in better school zone and originally I was thinking I could wait until summer. Now we are trying to move as soon as our lease is up in March, so we can register, well before schools close for the summer. Last September, I heard there were huge issues with overcrowding in the "good" schools and children being bussed to other schools. There's a special program to apply to for out of zone schools, and I just found out the first deadline passed in December. Luckily there is a second and third round, so I'm applying before the next deadline, but we probably won't know if we get in until after we move, anyways.
DD1 will start kinder in 2017, and I am already thinking about it. It is a year and half away, but we have to start thinking about it, because she will have to be registered this time next year. Crazy.
We go to a magnet school. To get into K at the magnets, you have to apply by December the year before they start. Regular application is later, but so many people miss out on the magnet opportunities in our district because they don't think to look into K that early...the application period starts in October of the school year before your kids start.
Our online registration window opened on 1/11. then we got an appointment in Feb to bring in documentation. this then allowed us to apply for the lottery by 3/1. We then attended the mandatory lottery-entrant kindergarten information in early April.
Then, we lost the lottery and none of the above mattered, lol. We now have kindergarten screening on 8/5 at our home school and school starts the 17th.
