My 10 yr old has one. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't play Blu Ray/DVDs. You also have to buy the Wii nunchuck/stick-like thing for a second player. We'd bought a regular controller but had to plug it into the nunchuck (so two purchases) for it to work.
My son doesn't play with his much but my niece loves hers!

Thank you! We already have a PS3 (we have lots of games for it already but don't play it much), and a stand-alone Blu-ray player that does 4K and 3D. DH has had his Xbox 360 forever. But our PS3 has pretty much gotten obsolete except for the games we already have for it. We'd like a way to play the older Nintendo games, which I guess you can download, and it does the motion capture which would be good for the kids to play things like Just Dance or whatever.
We have one and love it. Our kid can play on it with the tablet pad while we watch other things on the TV. Plus we like the Mario games, Lego, etc. My daughter got a painting game which she uses a special drawing pad with, but we get tons of mileage out of that console. With enough controllers, we can all do races together.
We have a Wii. It's OLD. We were debating about getting a WiiU. Friends have one and the mom told me that at our kids age (our boys are both 7), she wouldn't recommend it. She feels her son is starting to outgrow it. He's getting interested in games that they would need a PS4 or XBox for. So we ended up upgrading to a PS4 instead.
Luckily DH plays a lot of games too and he knows what's appropriate and not for DS.

We have one and love it. The Wii U games are all pretty family friendly and enjoyable to play. Like a previous poster has mentioned I really enjoy that DS is able to play a game on the game pad and not take over the TV. I would recommend it.

DH loves it but plays the PS4 more. The Wii U is only good for whenever we have people over because it has more multi-player games, like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc.
We have had it for a while. Just got my boys an X-box One which seems like the one the kids like the best these days. My only hesitation is that it has been around for a while - is an update coming?
Our kids really like it. We got it a year or two ago. I hear a new one is coming out but we had a Wii for years after the WiiU had come out and it was fine for us and our kids.

DS got one for Christmas. We already had a Wii and can still use the games (Mario Kart, Lego HP/Star Wars/Hobbit). He mostly wanted Super Mario Maker (which is pretty cool, btw), which can only be played on the Wii U.
We have an x-box 360, x-box one, an original PS , A PS2, and an original wii, I keep trying to get an upgrade for the newer wii but the man says no. ~lol~
The kids got one for Christmas and so far it's a big big hit. I picked it/liked it because it seems the most family friendly - both in terms of type of game (I feel like Xbox etc is 90% first person shooter games) plus in that it has a lot of options for 3 or 4 person player games (so more "social" I suppose). Also the fact that the kids can take the console and carry it around the house etc is a big plus. My boys are 8 and 3 and it seemed by far the best fit for that dynamic.
