Anyone else like to spend the week before the New Year decluttering? I've filled up my backseat and trunk with stuff to take in as well as a couple bags of trash. I love starting the new year with clean closets!
My goal is to tackle the mud room this week. So much clutter. Thanks to tiny closets, I do a clothing purge every season when I switch out clothes. And thanks to Junior League donation requirements, I'm always looking to get rid of stuff! I have a massive box already that in planning to take next week for my Spring 2016 donation!
Yes! I have been systematically purging... pantry, linen closet, closet, drawers, nightstand, kid drawers etc. For everything I bring in the house I get rid of multiples. Feels so good and its so much easier to keep the house tidy.
Eta: I've tossed so many "tired" faded stained sweaters and one dressy tees and shoes etc -- so much easier to get dressed when everything is in good condition and fits well.
I'm a constant purger, so I don't need to declutter, but I do need to deep clean. I think I'm doing to treat myself to housecleaning, though. I felt overwhelmed just thinking about cleaning my baseboards.

Not this year but most years we do a huge purge/declutter. DH has always had the week off between Christmas and NY's and I usually take it off with him to help him around the house. This year we are back home visiting friends and family. It's not bad anyways since we just moved. We will have a huge purge this summer after we buy a house.

Yes! I try to continually minimize/purge our crap, but it tends to accumulate unless I do a seasonal overhaul. I love when Big Brother calls and asks if I need a pick-up, I always say yes and then use that as motivation. We have a small house, which is both a blessing and a curse (limited storage apace).
I'm deep cleaning this week, since I'm off. We did pretty good with decluttering right before and after our move this summer, but if I come accross anything that needs to go I'll get rid of it.

Yes! I am off the rest of the week and DH isn't, so tomorrow I plan to purge both our closets (leaving him a pile of things to go through) while watching Netflix.
When DH had this week off, we used to do major cleaning /decluttering projects. Now he's working so I try and spread it out over the year. I joined a weekly decluttering group to encourage me
Over the last 10 months I have gotten rid of about 25% of what I own. I'd like to get rid of another 10-15% and will do some further closet purges in the next month or two.

Mr. P was called last week and told an offer is being prepared. It was relayed in the interview that he would be require to move to Houston. He probably won't see the offer until next week but sorry, I don't think they have operations in your area

We've been doing this in stages. We cleaned out our master bedroom closet a few weeks ago, and then about a week ago I went through all our bedlinens and trimmed out all except the two best sheet sets. Next I have to tackle our bookshelves -- they are a disaster but I know DH won't let me cull any books, so I'll have to figure out if I can get there by reorganizing.
I completely purged our basement and was so ruthless. It felt good. I'm talking boxes we never unpacked when we moved here 6 years ago!
So far, I decluttered the basement, bathroom, laundry room and all of our books. I have my closet and the kid's toys left. My closet will be easy since I just did it about 6 months ago. I'm procrastinating on the kids toys since it seems so daunting - most of the junky toys will get tossed and a bunch will go to Goodwill.
If anyone has good storage tips for Legos, would love to hear them!
I'm hoping we can make a dent in what needs to be done before we move or the baby comes, whichever comes first. I'm glad no one has yet to say I'm nesting.
I'm here minus the moving part. We desperately need to de-clutter. However, December has been a crappy month literally and physically with H working a ton & now sick and I was sick for basically the entire month. So, nothing got done. The baby room is still an office with leftover/broken furniture we need to take to the dump, we need to organize all our files, paint a wall... clean out the garage. I'm pretty sure H won't have any time off until paternity leave starts in May so I'm going to enlist the help of friends.
We got a bigger safe for Christmas to replace our little briefcase-sized chest that's full to bursting. I got some folders and I'm looking forward to swapping everything out tonight. It's not even anything valuable ... just a ton of paperwork, our passports and checkbooks, spare keys, etc. The little briefcase couldn't fit our external hard drive of wedding photos so I'm glad the bigger one will hold it.
I also want to go through our closets and dressers to get rid of clothes we don't wear anymore. I made a donation bag a few months ago but never dropped it off. I need to top off the bag and get rid of it.
I asked for practical kitchen stuff for Christmas and I got a ton of spices - mostly doubles of things I already have. Our spice rack won't fit all of them so I have to figure out something else.
Broken record alert: I'm still looking for a way to get rid of these damn VHS tapes. Thrift shops and libraries aren't accepting them. Best Buy won't recycle them; I'm unsure about Staples. I found a local ewaste recycling facility but I don't want to be charged for it.

I've done some, but could stand to do more. We still have too much stuff, but at least it's organized (for the most part). I just did our desks and files today.
If only I could get DH to sort through old computer / electronic stuff. Our attic is stuffed with boxes of wires and other random bits. I don't necessarily mind that he keeps these things because occasionally he'll find something we need in there, I just hate that it's not organized in any way. I'd do it myself if I knew what things were.
