I would do a brunch.
An egg dish - either quiche or egg casserole.
PIGS IN A BLANKET. You can buy a gigantic thing of frozen ones at Costco. Or obviously you could make them yourself. These are always a hit with kids and adults alike.
Fruit salad.
Maybe some yogurt.
Tater tots. I know that sounds a little odd, but after all, they are just bite sized hash browns! I hosted a big brunch party last year and made two bags' worth of tater tots. We ate every last tot. NOMMMMMMMM.
Mimosas. Have ginger ale to mix with OJ for the guest of honor, kids, and other non-drinkers.
I would say some quiches or breakfast casseroles, a green salad, maybe a fruit platter, some sausage, and some pastries or cheesecake bites or something to serve along with the cake.
Cheese plate Fruit tray Green salad (maybe a kale salad) Quiche Fried potatoes Sausage French toast casserole or pancakes (I like waffles, but I think they tend to harden too easily) Smoked salmon (cream cheese, sliced red onion and capers on the side) Bagels, muffins and danishes Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice, grapefruit juice, mimosas, bellinis and bottled water

Am I the only one who is getting secondhand diabetes looking at recommendations for waffles or French toast casserole AND cake? OMG. I love sugar, but sweet Jesus that is so much.
Personally, I would go heavy on the savory if there's cake.

You could always do a breakfast taco bar!!!
Yes, I agree it's too much. You should have chocolate chip waffles with whipped cream instead , double diabetes cancels itself out.

You have to give people options. You never know when a greedy Gretchen like myself might show up. I do like your yogurt idea, though. I wish to add that to my list. Now beat it with your shameless taco plugs.

Well then you should clearly make some sort of southwest, TexMex breakfast bar.
And add chipotle roasted sweet potatoes to the list, diced sweet potatoes coated with olive oil, salt, and chipotle powder roasted to perfection. Some of us like breakfast burrito bowls instead of breakfast tacos.
And also make sure you invite everyone in this thread. That wouldn't be awkward at all.
The mom to be loves tacos so I'm going for it. Thanks papiercherri for the sweet potato idea! I cant invite everyone but i can take pictures! Food porn?

If you do quiche, or any other sort of baked egg, make sure there's another filling option for non-egg eaters. I've gone to way too many brunches where the food is something like quiche and a fruit salad.
ETA: just saw you decided on tacos. Love it. Just make sure there's a more traditional taco option, too. I can see kids side-eyeing sweet potato or chorizo tacos.
bina - they are a southern staple at showers & events held in the church fellowship hall. I truly don't expect you to serve them. They are a holdover from the Brits. Here's a link to favorite finger foods.
