We are coming to the end of bottle use, and I'm now concerned about storing them for possible #2. Due to my age/IF issues, #2 will be in the near future (i.e., I'm trying to get PG now and we'll transition to the reproductive specialist at the beginning of the year).
Do I save the bottles, parts and nipples? (We have Dr. Brown's)
Do I save the small Medela pump bottles?
I've got all plastic, so wasn't sure if I should toss.
I kept everything from DS1 (Dr. Brown's and Medela) with the exception of nipples. Put them in climate-controlled storage for almost 2 years and was completely comfortable pulling them out for DS2 to use. No discoloration or anything.
I would recommend getting new nipples. I had to replace mine every 3 months or so with DS1 anyways. They do deteriorate as a PP stated.
I used Avent bottles and saved everything. I put I them in ziplock bags and then stored those with a bunch of other feeding/pumping supplies in a huge plastic tote. My BFF stored her bottles and when she had baby #2 she just washed them in hot water and they were fine to use. I also saved my pump bottles but some were kind of nasty. I figured once we have #3 I will just buy new tubing and pump stuff anyway.
I EP'd and the nipples never were bad so I saved all of them. I had enough bottles to last each day and washed them every night so they did get a ton of use.
Thanks for all the advice! I will definitely pack up. Looking forward to having my counter back. I also almost 100% bottle-fed (pumping and formula) so I have a shitton of bottles and accessories, so there was a good rotation. I'll evaluate once I need to unpack for ...hopefully...DC2!
I've already started packing away the things Hobbes is done using, to save for #2. So far that's just the Medela graduated cylinders (1 and 2.5 oz), Medela nipple, and soft feeder that I got in the hospital/NICU and a Mam bottle that she didn't like. As she outgrows the Avent #1 nipples and 4 oz bottles, I'll add that to the same bag. I fully intend to keep all that for #2.
I saved and reused everything for DD2, with the exception of nipples. Even though I store almost all of our baby stuff in the attic, I stored the bottles (and any other nursing, pumping, or feeding products) in the back of the closet, since I wasn't sure what the extreme temperatures in the attic would do to the plastic.
