I feel like this is such a complex issue, and I'm having trouble organizing my thoughts.
Historically, it's always been this way. The only people who have the resources (and time) to write about poverty are those that are wealthy. Even those sources that write from true life experiences, we only get to hear after they have somehow climbed up the ladder and freed up space for their voices to be heard.
The other problem is that no one wants to read these stories. We (collective) would much rather read about the Kardashian butt implants than the fact that we have children in the US that don't get fed outside of the school system. Those in the trenches don't want to read about every day life. They know what's happening because they're living it.
Finally, I don't see a problem with leaving the reporting to the higher paid journalists that have the capacity to spread the word. But I'm open to changing that idea since I haven't thought that one out fully.
