We are possible adopting a 6 year old female yorkie?
Any advice? Wisdom? WarnIngs? They found her running around a city a few months ago in very poor shape. She is much healthier and seems to have been someone's pet according to the foster mom.
6yo is a sweet spot for small breeds like Yorkies! She's well out of the puppy pain in the rear stage- but, you shouldn't have to worry about saying good-bye any time soon.
Is she cat safe? She's presumably small enough that it's not critical to anyone's immediate safety, but, I'd want to know ahead of time so you can weigh that issue. We have enormous dogs and a tiny ~10 lb dachshund- the only one that would make living with a cat miserable is the little guy (none of our previous dachshunds had a problem with cats- just this one).

How is your cat(s) around dogs?
Exactly why we are possibly adopting her. We have been looking for a dog that is right in that middle spot.
They are pretty sure she is ok with cats, she is with a rescue facility now in foster care with 10 dogs.
Our one one cat is scared of the world and will probably hide for a while. Our other cat was over a year when we introduced the second one. While he has an attitude, it only took,a couple of days for him to get over it. He is a big cat and a porker so more just testy but too lazy to do anything more than a quick hiss. We do plan on getting a crate. We may only use it when we are out of the house, but this way she will have her own getaway space if the kids overwhelm her. We also have lots of very high baby gates and the cats could most likely get away without her following.
i am pretty sure we will do a couple night test run.
and thanks for the cat advice. We got in to the vet and she is having surgery tomorrow.,,the root is still there and exposed and her other top canine is ready to come loose so he will take that out too.
I'm so sorry your cat is back in for dental work, that's never fun, even if it's for the best. That's the nice thing about foster dogs- being able to borrow them before committing. Good luck (for both the kitty and maybe-dog)!
