I'm confused. I see the article says they intended to overthrow the government and assassinate the president. But, seriously what is that going to accomplish?
I'll probably get flamed, but their "goals" just sound a little silly to me. Blowing up a fountain? Oh wow. (of course injuries would be horrible- the way just sounds laughable)
Are there more articles with more info about numbers in the group or what they wanted to accomplish by doing these things? I would love to know more about these people.

It's scary to me because it's one of those cases where even if I went out today and bought the gun that I want I really don't think it would have helped that much against those people. And I don't even know what they were angry about exactly. And also the treating people as disposable part.

Stan, I'm not saying they aren't dangerous and I don't care what their names are. I'm trying to figure out what their intentions are. People that are willing to hurt others in order to accomplish a goal are, of course, dangerous.
I just want to know what they think they will gain. I'd like to know what their motivation is, their purpose.
From what I know, McVeigh had specific reasons for doing what he did. Maybe there isn't enough information out yet, but that's why I'm confused, I guess.
Specific crazy reasons! And whether you care about their names or not, if those had been their names, this would be everywhere. We would have heard about it.
Just because their reasons are crazy doesn't mean they don't have them.
And, it's not my fault the media doesn't give a crap. I'm glad you c&p'd the article. I'm constantly frustrated with having to shuffle through several news sources to hear about anything other than election and now hurricane Isaac.
I don't think it's a bad thing to be curious about their motivations...
I see being interested in what they want out of curiosity but I don't see why it matters. Terrorists "goals" are never not silly are they? They are crazy and dangerous and had a lot of funds to be able to accomplish whatever they wanted to. Thank God they were caught. The thought of something like OKC happening again is terrifying.

It's getting a huge amount of press here. To answer a few questions: 1. They were planning to blow up the fountain for several reasons. - It's the most well known landmark here. - It is in the most densely populated area of town - It is in the most visited tourist area of town - They were planning to blow the fountain during the free concert after the Rock and Roll Marathon in the park, near that fountain. Last year, during that concert, there were nearly 10 thousand people at that concert. The plan was to detonate when the concert was letting out. The majority of people leaving would have been walking past that fountain toward the hotels, bars and parking garages. It would have been absolutely devastating. That's why that was such a big deal and not silly or laughable at all. There have been a crazy amount of H&W checks in the units here at Hunter and Ft Stewart in the last couple of days. I'm sure there are more coming. People are paying a hell of a lot of attention to tattoos. Tattoo shops are being interviews to see records kept of who got that particular tatt. Ft Stewart issued a statement that they have no problems with gangs or militias and they are not worried about further incidents. However, no one knows exactly how deep this runs. The PFC says they were targeting soldiers who were jaded or who felt the Army had screwed them over. Many of their members are said to have PCS'd elsewhere and he said they are actively recruiting at other bases. The SGT who started this whole thing started stock piling weapons with insurance money he was paid after his pregnant wife died. They thought that was an accident before, but now they are opening that case back up because they are saying it's all suspect. It's crazy. I'm sure the news will have more info soon. I'll keep those of you interested updated.

Also, other plans they have included: - Taking over Ft Stewart and starting with blowing up the ammo depot as well as guard gates, the Garrison Command offices, the IG offices, JAG, the MP station and other spots. - They planned to simultaneously hit the same spots on Hunter as well as others. - They planned to blow several Federal buildings in Savannah - The ports of Savannah - Several other highly popular tourist areas of Savannah - The same key spots on Ft Lewis as Ft Stewart and Hunter.
They lead guy also has land he bought in Washington State where everyone was supposed to meet and rally to move forward into the next phase of what ever his plans were.
There is absolutely know way it was just these 5 guys.

Yikes. No way do I believe they're the only ones involved.
Related to the gangs/militias denial, but I heard/read somewhere that gangs are a real problem in the military. The problem is, I have no idea where I heard/read that, so I can't go finding more on it. Has anyone else heard that?
Didn't this story just break? We have a hurricane rushing toward the Gulf Coast and the RNC is occurring - perhaps there is fact checking and we'll see it in primetime tonight?
I probably just heard about it through generic grapevine conversation. Many of my friends are JAGs, and I've known a few OSI agents, too, so I could see an aside mention showing up in happy hour shop talk.
