I have a $100 Talbots gift card. I am looking for looks to go with dark jeans. Preferably on the longer side, as the jeans are slim fitting (not skinny, but with my man-calves, they're halfway there in reality) and I have a pooch. I prefer no blazers because it's going to be winter for the next thousand years here, and blazers are a PITA to wear underneath winter coats. Top/cardigan/scarf/other accessory I don't know about combos are fine since they sit well under a coat. I tend toward cool colors because I have rosy skin and dark hair.
For now the jeans will be worn with fairly basic black boots. I have a pair of maroon-ish loafers for when the weather warms up, and I'm hoping to get a new pair of basic black flats in a couple of months. Just want a couple of updated casual looks.
I'm sure I could pull something together, but I figured I'd see what more fashionable people than me have to say!
I'm going to respond but I have a tax article due in 2 hours. How do you feel about prints? Polka dots?
I am open to all things! I mostly have solids in my wardrobe for simplicity - almost all my cardigans go with almost all my short sleeved tops, for example. But since I don't necessarily NEED anything, I am OK getting a print that doesn't coordinate with every part of my current wardrobe.
They are a bit proud of their scarves, the cute ones start at like $50?
I have always thought the same thing! No thanks, I'll hit up TJ Maxx or JCPenney for some scarves.
Glad to hear you like the cowl neck. I was digging some of them.
I have three of the charming cardigans (black, navy, green), but only in 3/4 length. Not sure why I didn't think of getting a long sleeved one. I have four short sleeved jersey tops that go well under them. I like the blackcurrant color!
And add a scarf, possibly in a plaid, for the weekend. You could also pair leopard flats with a fun necklace.
The shoes I buy tend to be pretty pricey, thanks to my being on my third right foot injury in as many years! So I tend to stick with solids that go with everything.
But I'm liking these other suggestions. I do need to change up my jewelry more. I have a ruby pendant that matches my e-ring, and I am too lazy to change it much. But I could probably make the effort the two times per week I go to the office.
Don't discount leopard as a neutral if you find it in a pair that gives you support. I wear my leopard flats far more than any other pair since I tend to stick to jewel tone solids up top.

Yesssssss. I do this, too.
Boo to your meh of the leopard.
Hey, I gotta be me! I'm eyeing a hot pink crossbody bag. But leopard? Nope.
I'm not going to actually respond with any ideas because I think I know how that would end, but I just want to say that I love Talbots and I'm LOLing at your man calves. I have sausage thighs. As in ever damn pair of pants I put on them these days makes them look like sausage in a casing.

Haters to the left! Recommend shit for me! You know I have pedestrian Midwestern taste. I'll probably buy everything you suggest. (heart)

So I don't have a basic white shirt, and I feel like I should. EXCEPT. I sweat excessively out of my right armpit, and every white shirt I've ever owned yellows like a motherfucker on the right. ONLY ON THE RIGHT. Apparently my right sweat gland is hyperactive and lefty over there is chilling? The right side of my body is GARBAGE. I used to try all kinds of things to de-yellow them (I think aspirin was involved in one of these tricks?), but I just stopped buying white instead.

I have this problem, too. I just keep buying white oxfords to replace the yucky ones when they get yucky. And then I'll keep the yucky ones to wear under sweaters and cardigans. I have no solution other than that. I have to have a white oxford. They are an essential part of my closet.
