I liked it, might have more thoughts tomorrow. I liked Edith's dress but really didn't like her veil.
I loved her veil and didn't love the dress! But she looked lovely.
I really wish I knew Cassandra/Spratt's ideas on combining elegance and comfort.
Carson: "What's that, now?" Random person: "A hand basket for the journey to hell, Lady Mary wanted it." Carson: "Ah yes, they make the journey very smooth, indeed."
@ Cora's "She's pregnant again?" The all-encompassing shade of it all.
So happy for Anna! And also for Edith and Barrow .
I can't believe I made an accurate prediction that Tom and Henry would make their automotive fortune and that Mary would be pregnant. Thrilled about both!
I'm also happy for Tom and Ladyeditor. All we were missing was a reappearance by Prince Kuragin.
It really was a lovely wedding and a perfect ending. Now please excuse me while I go sob into my pillow.
It was bitter sweet to see it end! I will admit to laughing and shedding a tear or two.
I loved some of the dowager's lines, especially "never let tenderness be a bar to a bit of snooping."
Barrow and Master George were so cute! As were Henry and Tom with the kids in the office and I like that they were "reinventing" themselves. I liked that Mary and Edith seemed to find peace in their relationship. And it was fun to see Rose again. Donk seeing Cora at the hospital and realizing what she was doing was heartwarming. I love Tom and the editor together and was so happy Edith finally found happiness.
Daisy still drove me crazy and what was she thinking trying to cut her hair?? But I was happy for the baby, Barrow, and Carson.
Overall, I was happy with all the endings and am glad they ended it while we all still loved it.
THANK GOD Edith & Bertie got back together. Those two droopy low-self-esteem buddies were meant for each other, and now they have money and castles to help boost their profiles Loved, loved, loved how Edith handled the FMIL by telling the truth.
Also - YAY FOR MRS. CRAWLEY! That storyline was the only real surprise, and I loved how they handled it. He's dying! She realizes she loves him! She can't see him given the evil daughter in law who is the perfect match for the evil son! Violet joins forces & they free him! Get married! NOT DYING! YAY!!!! (Would it have killed them to show a photo of the wedding or something!?)
Dowager finding out about Spratt's article = AMAZING. That reaction was superb.
Liked Robert seeing Cora at "work," that was a good move on behalf of Rose (nice to see her again.)
My nitpicks:
Would have preferred a different ending for Thomas (gets a new job in London and finds out that there are LOVELY gay men in 1920s England that find his Michael Jackson glove & lovely hair quite intriguing.) Instead, Mr. Carson gets the shakes and Thomas is sucked back into Downton
Didn't really care about the Bates' storyline wrapping up, though they had to do it - that baby will soon run in with the law and end up in a harrowing brush with the law that stretches on far too long.
Also...it was quite annoying that YET AGAIN all works out for Mary. Of course "Gabe-from-the-office" (Henry?) is now "so over" racing coincidentally :/
Would have also preferred a better ending for Tom. Yes, Julian, we know that Tom loves cars, and he's therefore obsessed with Gabe, but could we have given Tom something of his own (beyond a glimmer of a future relationship with sassy editor lady!)
Also -who cares about stupid old communist Daisy? She needs to work on herself before she is ready for a relationship with future-pig-farmer Andy. Too much time on that storyline. Julian should have put more time on Mrs. Patmore and current-pig-farmer vs. Daisy!!!!

Same! I thought the dress length was awkward, but I thought the veil was GORGEOUS.
Maybe it's just that they didn't look right together. I thought the super long, layered veil looked silly due to the sleek style & length of the dress, but maybe I would have liked the veil with a different dress
Dowager finding out about Spratt's article = AMAZING. That reaction was superb.
I loved that whole scene with the Dowager & Denker. Denker thinks she's always so smooth but the Dowager is always on to her! "It's conveniently turned to the correct page!"
They resolved the whole Baxter thing that I didn't really care about, but she & Molesley still didn't end up a couple.
I *loved* that Thomas came back to be butler. The way they have been showing his relationship with master George, made me think we were supposed to see parallels in the relationship between Mary and Carson. I love the idea that as George grows up and becomes the next Earl, Thomas will be there looking out for him.
Did anyone else think George + Sybbie - Marigold + baby Bates + baby Talbot = an overworked nanny? Damn.
Still wanted to slap Daisy.
I spoiled myself by reading about the season ending a couple of weeks ago...I could have sworn there was something in there about Robert and Cora renewing their vows, but that wasn't in the episode! Actually, I thought it was supposed to be 2 hours but it was just 95 mins and then they went to a pledge drive.
Or maybe it was a short break and I turned it off too soon......

Hey, that too! I could have sworn I read something to that effect. Now I'm really thinking I turned it off too soon.

I liked Edith's dress and veil because it felt very "true to Edith" and symbolic of the times - a long veil honors tradition, but a short dress signals that she's a modern woman. And she very much is, much more so than Mary or Cora or really any other upstairs lady we've seen on the show. OMG, I may be swaying to team Edith.
And I'm thrilled she finally gets a happy ending, because she has matured so much -- I think more so than any other character. OMG, I may be swaying to team Edith.
But I also think it's a bit sad that Thomas will be at Downton indefinitely now...how will he ever meet a nice young man when he's cooped up at some country estate?
And I think I'm the only one but I don't like Mary and the racecar lad...I still pine for Matthew.
Daisy continues to annoy me, as does meddling Tom.
I already miss this show! But I'm so glad to see they didn't drag it on until nobody could stand to watch it anymore. Always classy, Downton.

Well, Marigold will go to live with Edith and Bertie, I assume, now that everyone's in on that secret.

Meddling Tom??? I was almost tempted not to like this, but you had other good points lol.
I don't think Thomas cares about meeting anyone as much as he cared about being a butler. It would have been nice, but it is still 1925. Maybe when he's older. Look at how many people on the show had to wait until they were older to find love.

Haha, I used to really like Tom, but lately it feels like he's got too much time on his hands and just wants to nose into everyone else's business. He needs a wife, or at the very least, a girlfriend. Occupy his time. I hope the business does that for him, but really I think he needs a little love.
That's true, actually re: Thomas. Plus he's been burned a couple times so I imagine he's less keen to find a nice man.
Can we talk about favorites now that we have six glorious seasons on which to reflect ?
For example, who was your favorite character upstairs? Favorite character downstairs? Favorite villain? Favorite relationship upstairs? Favorite relationship downstairs? Favorite relationship between an upstairs character and a downstairs character? Favorite "outside" character? Favorite character evolution/transformation? Favorite story line? Favorite love story? Love story that didn't happen but you wish had been explored? Favorite quote? Question/story you most wish had been resolved? Favorite ending?
And please feel free to add on questions! I will answer later, there are a couple I need to think through lol.

This. They really emphasized this this season. This, and his relationship with George, and the Mary/Carson parallel is one of my three favorite storylines this year. Plus it helps that he decided to stop being a douchebag.

Tough questions! People changed so much through the series. I'm not super committed to my answers here
Favorite upstairs: Obviously the Dowager wins anything. But taking her out of the equation - Lady Mary (and least favorite by a mile: Cora although she did redeem herself a little in the last few episodes) Favorite downstairs: Tie between Mrs. Hughes & Mrs. Patmore. It was Carson for a little bit at the beginning of the series, but he's been such a dick lately. Favorite villain: Thomas Favorite relationship upstairs: Mary & Matthew Favorite relationship downstairs: I wish I could say Mrs Hughes & Carson, but again he's been so awful at the end. I liked Mrs. Patmore & Daisy at the beginning, but Daisy was such a mess this season that also has been tarnished. I'll go with Mrs. Patmore & Mrs. Hughes friendship Favorite relationship between an upstairs character and a downstairs character: Hmmmm. Well I guess Tom & Sybil is an easy choice. I like Mary & Carson too Favorite "outside" character: Lady Rosamund (least favorite- Miss Bunting!!!!) Favorite character evolution/transformation: Spratt! LOL. But really Isobel. She really established herself from the outsiders/threat to she & Matthew were at first Favorite story line: Violet & Isobel becoming friends Favorite love story: This one is tough... I suppose Mary & Matthew Love story that didn't happen but you wish had been explored: Thomas and anyone Favorite quote: Too many to pick, the only one I can think of is "What is a weekend?" Question/story you most wish had been resolved: Every time the burned cousin comes up it irritates me. That was such a big thing to ignore or treat as insignificant. But at the same time I'm glad they didn't take it anywhere because I liked Matthew. Favorite ending: Isobel & Lord Merton or Edith's new life and how she handled her new MIL
