DS (omg that's the first I typed that, how weird it feels, lol) is due late November. DD2 will be 2 when he arrives. We currently have two strollers and an umbrella stroller. At this point, we only ever use the umbrella stroller for DD2. I like the idea of a double stroller, but I'm not sure there's a point to getting it since DD2 is almost 2. DD1 used the umbrella stroller up until she was around 3. Would you get a double stroller in this case?

You may be able to wait and see, but I'd probably get a double that can handle a carseat and a toddler. It will just make your life easier. My kids turn 2 in a few days, and we still use a stroller all the time, especially if I'm out by myself (although that may be b/c we have two toddlers and it's hard to run after two at once whereas a newborn would be immobile).
We got a sit n stand. DD was 3.5 when her sister was born and rarely used a stroller, but once her sister was here she was a little more interested so it was nice to have that option.
Our kids are 2.5 years apart so we opted for a sit and stand. It's been great. When I didn't want to baby wear we could use the carseat. When I needed to move faster the toddler could hop on and stand.
We bought a sit n stand off CL for $50. We love it. DS is 6months and DD is 2.5yrs and we use it all the time. I considered a double but it's too big and heavy and I know we wouldn't use it enough.
DS1 was 26 months when DS2 was born. We opted for a double that converts to a sot and stand. I use it when out alone with both kids or at the zoo. Otherwise we use the snap and go and DS1 walks.

My SIL is in the same age difference as you will be and they got the sit and stand. When she only has DD she just uses her snap n go, but she uses the sit and stand when she has both of them. Sometimes her DS likes to walk but he's still young that it's sometimes easier to use the stroller for both of them.

I find the double stroller to be crucial for containing my two year old when I need to go somewhere with the kids by myself, like doctor appointments. I went through couple doubles before settling in on the uppa baby vista with the rumble seat.

My son was 2.5 when his sister was born, and I got lots more use out of the double than I expected. We have a City Mini double, and use it for all day trips as well as our nightly walk. It makes life so much easier when I take them someplace alone to be able to contain both of them.

I have the baby jogger city select for my kids (twins). It is actually a single stroller that converts easily to a double. It can handle a carseat and a toddler seat. And the seats can face either direction and the toddler seats can hold up to 45 pounds. While it is bigger than an umbrella stroller, it is much easier to maneuver than the umbrella stroller. It is a tandem double instead of a side by side so you can actually get it through doorways and most store aisles. I really like it.
