DH and I are discussing a family trip to take the day after S graduates from K. We're looking at a week, in New England, so you guys can give me your feedback for trips in your own backyard We both like both options, and DH is driving himself crazy trying to figure out which would be "better"
Trip 1: A week in Bar Harbor, likely with bookend days in Camden ME.
Pros: Beach (S adores the beach, and swimming) DH and I have stayed there, have a couple of places we're eyeing to stay again We plan to get a place in town so parking wouldn't be an issue Tons to do, S has never been
Cons: More time in the car getting to/from than our other trip idea Not many indoor activities if it rains Crowded, at least more crowded than our other idea Places to stay in town may not have a pool (nay suck for S)
Trip 2: Woodstock, Stowe and/or Burlington, VT, ending in south central NH
Pros: Less driving to and from
Trip ends with a couple of towns in south central NH we all adore More indoor options if it rains DH found places that will have a pool Less crowded than Bar harbor Possibly cheaper than Bar Harbor
Cons: No beach (although one town in NH has a lake/pond that we may be able to access) No real in-town place to stay in Stowe so we would have to drive to dinner/lunch, activities, etc.
We are planning at least one trip to south central NH later in the year, so we'd at least be able to hit that spot again
Update: I told DH I thought we should do NH/VT this year, and next year we'll do Bar Harbor near the end of summer. I think he's just relieved one of us made a decision!
The beach is always my preferred choice but for swimming you may like VT/NH better with a pool option. It'll be much cooler feeling on the coast that far north in June then in VT/NH.
I was going to say Vt/NH too, Definitely save Bar Harbor though. I did an awesome whale watch out of there, S may appreciate when she is older.
Ugh, I hated my whale watch there! Everyone was seasick so the bathrooms were full, there was puke on the deck, it was awful. I'm afraid to go again, but DH hates boats, so i'll have to take S, LOL
