QOTD: Speaking of ovens in the cooking/baking question... Assuming you have the essentials (stove-top, refrigerator/freezer, sink, toilet, shower), what are your top choices for nice-to-have fixtures/appliances? Which are must-haves for you personally?
I'm excited for this weekend, because I'm tired. I haven't been going to sleep early enough, and I'm planning a lazy night in to do some laundry and get some sleep.
Tomorrow night I have a good friend's going-away party. We've been friends the entire 6-7 years he's been here, and I've met tons of great people through him (both here in Oslo and in Houston)! He's going to be sorely missed. I do hope he moves back at some point, because I know he likes it here. This sucks. #expatproblems
QOTD... My choices in order would be: 1. washing machine 2. vacuum cleaner
I've lived without these, but I prefer not to: 3. tumble dryer 4. oven
Beyond that, my top nice-to-haves are: 5. robot vacuum cleaner 6. dishwasher 7. bathtub
I LOVE having a bath tub. I can live without it but don't want to. I've also lived without a microwave and it was mostly NBD.
I'm currently without an oven, dishwasher, or dryer and while all would be nice, they are not the end of the world.
The worst was not having hot water in the kitchen of our old apartment. It never even occurred to me that this would be a thing until we were all moved in and realized that the hot knob on the sink didn't actually mean anything.
One appliance I will never use again is a combo washer dryer. We used to have one and not only did it not was or dry particularly well, it ruined everything.
We are hanging out with our good friends who are also expats with the same company as us. They said they think they might get sent home early because of the company reorganizing where their jobs are done. I will cry if they leave
QOTD: I miss my garbage disposal. I don't mind composting the big stuff but I still hate cleaning the gunk out of the catcher in the sink. But with 4 people in the house a washing machine gets top priority. I do laundry every other day. And ditto that combo dryers suck.
Oh and for non-major appliances, my must-have is a crockpot. For those of you who don't have ovens, there is a Ninja crockpot that is also an oven and it's awesome:

I can live without a dryer and dishwasher though I do miss them. We don't have an oven but it's the big thing I'm focusing on for our renovation this spring. I also don't need a bathtub though I love taking baths, but a good strong shower (which we don't have right now) is a huge thing for me (and will happen with the renovation).
I agree with everyone on the combo dryer - I'll either have a separate dryer or no dryer at all.

Good Morning!
Today we're heading out to the local Agricultural Show (like a county fair) and then we'll stop by my in-law's house to pick up some homegrown produce. Tomorrow, it's housework day with laundry and vacuuming planned, and if it's sunny and nice enough a walk to test out my Christmas-gift new walking shoes.
QOTD: My essentials are: computer oven stand mixer vacuum washer dvd/cd player
Would Rather not live without: bathtub dryer
Nice to have, but not necessary: crock pot blender ice cream maker waffle maker garbage disposal kindle
Can absolutely live without: dishwasher food processor iron smart/mobile phone cable/satellite tv

We are so on the same page. People here think I'm crazy for missing a garbage disposal. It makes such a difference in meal cleanup!!!

The thing I really miss about my garbage disposal is being able to grind up the citrus peels and making the kitchen smell fantastic. I really don't mind so much about everything else. Though after I accidentally sent four pie weight stones down my drain I'm happy I don't have a disposal. I'd certainly have to take it all apart to retrieve them. As it is, I'm sure they'll cause a problem later in the trap, but I'm determined to worry about that another day.

I've never had a garbage disposal so nothing to miss. We recycle our food waste in London so I don't think it would actually be worthwhile to us anyway.

Is this council dependent? I don't think we've ever had a food waste bin. I've lived in Westminster, Harringey and Camden councils.

Maybe - I've had it for the past three years in my council.
