We have a young puppy (8 weeks) and she has started biting in the last week. It's always during play. We give her toys instead, say "ouch!" loudly, and if she continues, we walk away and stop playing. Is there something else we should be doing?
5 weeks and 1 day. They lied about her age until I got there. The said they had already gotten rid of the other puppy and the mother and if I didn't want her, they had other people interested. It was pretty sad.
That's a shame- puppies learn so much from those weeks with their siblings and mother about controlling their bite pressure. All puppies bite during play, that's entirely normal- you're going to have to do some extra work beyond what you describe to make sure she knows how to regulate her bite around people. This post (I'll C&P the link below in case you're on mobile and can't see it here) has some additional issues (even younger puppy, challenging breed to begin with), but, what I shared with her applies to you, too.
I'm really a fan of getting puppies into a good group training class right away (look for classes at obedience clubs, kennel clubs, vets, sometimes shelters host good trainers, too).

Thanks for the link! I definitely wasn't thrilled. It's worked out because my older dog has stepped in as a mama to her. We are looking up obedience classes. Is Petsmart good? That's about all I'm finding, unless I go an hour away, which is not feasible.
