Hi All...I don't post much here but I'm more active on my local board. I have a 7 year old white GSD and am in the process of adopting another GSD, he'll be 6 (YAY). The groomer said that our current GSD has a pretty good temperament and that we could do his nail trims at home if we wanted. I've never done this before and would take him into the vet so she can show us the correct way but I'd like some recommendations on trimmers.
Our groomer uses one that looks like a Dremel so he's use to that noise.
I hope the adoption goes great- it's so fun to watch dogs play together!
You can definitely try to dremel/grind them at home- it's easy if you have a dog who isn't stressed by the noise/vibration, and it sounds like your current dog isn't! As far as traditional clippers go, I swear by Miller's Forge for large dogs. They're not fancy or expensive, just simple, effective, dependable. I bet it's super easy to see your white dog's quicks, so clipping wouldn't be very scary with him! I've been clipping dog's nails for 15 years and still hate doing dark nails (but, I do and very rarely go too far).
