I won't lie, the storylines are pretty sketchy now that I watch them as an adult. Emilio Estevez stalking Andie McDowell, Andrew MCcarthy having an obsession with Allie Sheedy, etc., etc., etc. It always made me sad at the end when they opt to go to Sunday brunch instead of their old college bar because they were getting older.
I need an old persons forum. I clearly belong there. Not knowing David Bowie? Okay, side eye. Not knowing The Brat Pack?? Spreadsheet. And homework. Please watch The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off immediately.
Ah!
I'M NOT OLD!!!! My parents just had horrible judgment, lol.
Oh. Well I am old, lol!!! Okay actually not (37) but this thread is making me feel about twice that!
We've been watching the original Star Wars movies the past few nights, and I have just been drooling over Young Harrison Ford. MMM. There is no way [redacted] is his son. Worst casting ever.
....gaaaaah I was just going to see Star Wars on Friday!! LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.
Sorry!! I just saw the new one last Monday, so I thought I was behind!

I don't like the Beatles. Or Michael Jackson.
Never seen a brat pack movie.
I know of David Bowie but I have no idea why people are up in arms he died. Never seen pans labyrinth. I recognize the chick from he's just not that into you, though?
I've only seen it once, but I didn't like it! I like a lot of the Brat Pack movies, but that one just didn't do it for me.
I didn't watch St Elmo's until I was at older as it had bit more adult content. So I can see why it didn't do it for you. I still think the acting was great.
I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I didn't know who Michael Jackson WAS until I was like 12. So 1997? lol
I didn't really listen to the radio until late middle school and we never had cable. What we did watch on network TV was pretty monitored. I watched like 90% Disney movies until a really embarrassingly late age. lol
Seriously, my birth until the mid-late 90s = pop culture void.
ETA: My parents were not religious! Or crazy! I don't know why my childhood was so weird. We listened to a lot of Kingston Trio and James Taylor. We played a lot of board games. My sister and I played with Barbies until like high school. LOL
I grew up with my parents listening to Bowie, Michael Jackson, Prince, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd...
O.k., so what I got out of this thread is apparently I'm old enough to be your mother...

I also assume people who don't like Labyrinth just haven't smoked the amount of weed I have.
Hey! I have only tried weed once and I have mad Labyrinth respect! It just takes some imagination damnit!!! I didn't need weed to enjoy it. I may have been drunk the last time I saw it though...

I stopped reading at page 4, but my flameful is I didn't see Labyrinth til I was an adult. But, my redemption is I knew who Bowie was well before that. Born in '84, woot!!!
He also had a small, but good role in The Prestige, for example, he wasn't ONLY the Goblin King, btw. ;-)
Pans Labyrinth. LOL. I have the church giggles at work. And I am supposed to be really working.
Joining you in giggles.
Pan's Labyrinth was also a great movie. But it's about the Spanish Civil War, which I dare say happened well before anyone on this board was born. So maybe people have never heard of it or of George Orwell or Hemingway or anyone else who wrote about it but died before 1980.
I guess my confession is that I read The Brat Pack as The Rat Pack, and started judging all over again. I love both deeply, but I think not knowing The Rat Pack is way worse than not knowing The Brat Pack.
PREACH.
They even reference the Rat Pack in "Clueless" FFS. An iconic 90's movie. And therefore, even children of the 90's should know who the Rat Pack is/was. (Which, I was in late elementary/middle school then, so I guess that's me??!)
"What's with you kid? You think the death of Sammy Davis left an opening in the Rat Pack?"

@this watched Clueless for the first time in 2015.

I haven't seen any of the brat pack movies. I have been to multiple Chicago concerts though. Every time I say David Bowie's name in my head, I hear it in a New Zealand accent because of Flight of the Conchords.
I feel like it's my duty as a parent to introduce DS to a wide variety of music as soon as possible. Our daily dance music roundup is as follows:
Turn down for what Macklemore AC/DC Queen Michael Jackson
I've also gotten him to watch breakdancing videos...apparently one of them the guy takes his shirt off mid-dance. Now DS has to do the same...and it's now progressed to shirt off, pants off.
