Hi there- I've been lurking over here for a while, but mostly post on GotP and TTTC grads.
I'm due with #1 in just 5 weeks and I'm starting to think about diapers. I figured you ladies might have some input. I've heard a lot that you need to figure out what brand etc works for your kiddo, but once you know that, how do you most cost effectively buy diapers? Is there a website I need to follow?
I'm on Amazon moms and LOOOOVEE the 'Zon (as we call it around our house) is that the way to go?
I only used Pampers for the first two years because any time I tried another brand (first Huggies then Target) they leaked. After two years I used Luvs for my two year old until he was potty trained. I still use Pampers for my infant because I think they're the best. But I buy them from BJs where I get the best price for a huge case with a $5 off coupon when the coupon book comes out every month. I'm sure there's a cheaper way to go but my 6 month old still has an unpredictable poop schedule.
We started out in Pampers Swaddlers but those were fairly short term for us, I think we used them for NB and size 1? Once we were out of size 1 we decided to try Costco's out and they worked great for us so we just kept at it We've since found Target's brand work out fine for us too, so I buy those some of the time, like if we're running really low and I don't have time to get over to Costco or if Target has them on sale (or buy 2, get a gift card etc). I've heard the Amazon Subscribe and Save is really good for some brands of diapers, but we don't use it.
We used mostly Pampers for our first but tried several brands. Huggies don't seem to fit my skinny boys very well. Up&Up are cheaper but get really saggy and are more likely to leak. With our second boy we got a good deal on Honest Co. diapers and wipes(40 and 50% off) and have liked those so far. With those discounts it is around the same price as Pampers, but I wouldn't buy them at retail price.
Target seems to have the best in-store deals around my area.
We use Pampers Swaddlers and I get them through amazon subscribe & Save. I honestly don't know if it's the best price available, but I like the convenience of having them delivered every month. I also subscribe to wipes.

Almost everyone I know uses pampers swaddlers for their infants. I did start using pampers baby dry at night because they seem to hold more wee in. Now she is almost two, I only use baby dry.
We got a ton of diapers as shower gifts and were able to try several different brands as a result.
I personally liked Pampers best and that's what we bought when we ran out of the freebies. Then C went to daycare and even though I brought Pampers, he'd come home in Up & Up and they seemed to work just fine for him. So then we started buying those and saved money.
For baby #2, I bought a small pack of both Pampers and Up & Up to try, and my mom gave us a box of Huggies as well.
I recommend picking a brand to start with, and see if it works. Keep in mind that what works for the first few months might not work as well as the baby grows. For example, we started on Pampers Swaddlers and switched to Huggies Little Snugglers at about 2 months.
I would recommend trying some store brand diapers -- Up & Up and Kirkland (Costco) are fairly well regarded around these parts. Personally, we buy Huggies at Sams or Costco, and find that we get a great deal on them. Of course, you have to figure in the annual membership. Amazon often has deals as well (every now and then they have 50% off deals on Huggies). Target has lots of buy 2 get a gift card deals.
If you're not tied into a particular brand, you can just buy whatever is on sale.
One piece of advice -- resist the urge to stock up. Your LO may not wear NB size diapers at all, and may be in size 1 or 2 for only a few weeks. Or your LO could be in NB size for six or more weeks. You just don't know until the baby is born. Yes, you can usually exchange unopened packs of diapers for the next size up, but that can be a pain when you're adjusting to having a new baby at home. Also, I guarantee you that in those first weeks, you or your H will be able to run to Target or Walgreens or wherever to get more diapers. And everyone who visits will ask if they can bring you anything. I would start out with one pack of NB and one pack of Size 1. Bring home as many diapers as you can home from the hospital. If you don't need the NB, you can exchange them for 1s.
We've been gifted several different brands. So far we've tried Pampers and Luvs. Both work fine, but DH in particular prefers the Pampers. Unfortunately for him, we have a ton of Luvs to work through. We also just received a box of Costco ones. Not sure we'll get to try those any time soon since I want to use what we have open first.
I follow Baby Cheapskate on Facebook and stock up when she posts big deals. She also posts a weekly round-up of the best diaper, wipes, and formula deals.
We aren't really brand loyal. Everything I've tried has been fine.

We have a variety of brands in different sizes from our showers, so I think I'll def go the "trial and error" route. Yes, I DEF need to resist the urge to stock up, so I'm just planning what I'll do after we know what we like
So far I've tried Pampers swaddlers, Honest, and Up and Up. We returned an open box of Up and Up because they were so awful. Pampers for life. For wipes I've tried Pampers, Huggies, Honest, Amazon, and Babyganics. I like Huggies the best followed Pampers and Babyganics. Honest wipes SUCK. Especially the travel pack.
We use Pampers, and love them. I've tried to use others (Honest Co., Huggies, as well as Costco, and Sam's Club brands), but always always come back to Pampers.
We use Swaddlers during the day, and Baby Dry at night since DD is a pretty heavy wetter overnight
We usually buy from Sam's Club, and sometimes Target or CVS if they have a good deal - you just have to look to see if they're on sale, etc. Sam's really has a great price/diaper though, so it's hard to find them cheaper somewhere unless they're on a major sale. I do have to buy the Baby Dry either at CVS, BRU or Walmart, and I just typically buy them wherever is most convenient at the time since we only use 1/night.

I stalk and diaper deals. I have my preferences and buy those when on sale. Currently in my house i have 7th generation, pampers,Target, Babyganics and Honest Co all bought on sale. I pretty much will be anything except Huggies ( leak city) and Luvs( I hate the monkeys on them)

Haha! I hated the monkeys on the Luvs too! I also didn't like the plasticky feeling, even though they worked OK in the beginning.
We are also loyal to pampers. I tried a bunch, and had issues with blowouts on most of them. Just decided to stick with pampers. I buy them from him with subscribe and save or BJ's with coupons.

We used different diapers with each kid.
My first got horrible rashes that were almost like chemical burns from anything but pampers, so she used pampers all the time.
My middle didn't fit well in pampers, but target up and up diapers fit her perfectly (score! so much cheaper!).
My youngest was in up and up diapers for a long time and then they changed something and I didn't like them anymore. They felt too plasticy or something. So we switched to huggies until he potty trained.
I don't know the best prices. I'm awful at keeping prices in my head and remembering what something did/should cost. I know a lot of people love Costco for diapers.
We used Honest and Huggies for DD because she had a huge allergy to Pampers. Huggies wipes were hands down the best and we just got those from Costco. The honest wipes aren't pad so much as it's the packaging that is awful. I take the diapers out of the package and put them in the huggies containers for travel and hope and it's so much better. I've picked up a lot of Honest diapers on sale for the baby but don't want to get too many more until I have a better idea on his size.
We use Pampers Swaddlers. She started wearing them in the hospital and they were working, so we stuck with it. Plus the color change stripe made my life easier when I was brand new at this.
I priced them out at BJ's (what we have instead of Costco) and Amazon, and I find that the best deal is BJ's with coupon, but after that, the next best deal is Amazon Mom subscribe & save (cheaper than BJ's without coupon). And let's face it, nothing's easier than Amazon.
The trick for me is knowing what size to have on subscribe & save. We went through 3 different "last" boxes of NB diapers, the last 2 of which were bought at whatever price we needed to pay to have them NOW, because the size 1s that we had took longer for her to grow into without leg hole leaks than expected.
We used pampers swaddlers until they were in size 2, and then went to target brand. I wait until target has sales - which are quiet often. They'll do buy 2 packs of diapers and get a $10 gift card. I'm ALWAYS at target so that gift card is easily spent. Sometimes they also have if you spend $125 you get another gift card.
I've only been at this a week, but I like Pampers Swaddlers best along with Pampers Sensitive wipes. The hospital gave us some Huggies Little Snugglers, and they work well too, but for now I'm sticking with the Pampers.
I use Pampers Swaddlers. I tried Huggies (little snugglers?) and Up and Up, but the Huggies leaked and the Target ones smelled funny. I've bought them from Amazon, and also from Target when they run the gift card deal.
I love honest diapers. They hold more pee than anything else we've tried for overnight. They are also adorable which is a plus. For wipes I like babyganics or huggies. Pampers wipes were terrible and wet and smelled strongly and honest wipes, while I love them, come out 22 at a time due to crappy packaging. We had put them in a wipes holder and they were great but in the end we liked babyganics best anyway.
When she was a newborn we did use pampers swaddlers, I found the NB honest to be a little bigger so she used those between pampers NB and honest size 1.
I use Pampers (swaddlers until size 4 and now baby dry) for day and Huggies overnights (in a size up) for nights. I have not like the generic brands we tried, so I stick to these.
I generally buy at Target, when they are on sale and have a gift card option.
I prefer Pampers wipes too. Huggies tear so easily and Target brand are too thin. I have heard good things about the Costco brand, but haven't tried them.

So much good info! Thanks ladies!
So the one question I have is- is there a good way to find out/track when target has the sale? (i.e. get the $10 gift card?) Also, where do you all find the coupons you spoke of? We're costco people, so do I just look in their regular mailer?
