I was invited by the commanders wife to her home on Wednesday. She says she "wants my opinion on something." We're cordial but by no means "friends." I have to bring her something, right?
I would not bring anything. But I would (in my experience) suspect they want you to volunteer to do something...
This. I would assume they want you on some project or team or such, probably in a position that will suck up a chunk of time. So, go prepared with an answer for that...
As for bringing something, if you're not going for a meal or an event, I wouldn't worry about it.
If she invited you for dinner or something social I would probably bring a bottle of wine or similar just out of habit. But I do that nomatter who invites me - civilian friend, military friend whose husband outranks mine or not.
But if you are dropping in for a few minutes to chat then no, you don't need to bring anything. I would feel terrible if every time I asked someone to come over that they felt it necessitated gifts. LOL.

I'm already involved in the FRG and they are pretty transparent with that stuff. :-)
Haha! It turned out to be a ploy to get a few of the new wives to gain info about the upcoming deployment. Of course, none of them showed up, so it was just all of the spouses who already know all this stuff hanging out and chatting.

Let's put this in the "shit I don't miss" about being a military spouse. FWIW, I too would have thought on what to bring. Usually two dozen chocolate chip cookies.
