I am no gardener but I am learning and loving it! Here is my transfromed ugly front corner of my yard - I'm very proud - 100% done by me!
I had gorgeous blue Hyacinths in front of the wall by they died off so I moved the bulbs elsewhere to to finish dying. I replaced them with Blue forget-me-nots which I feel are too small flowered for in front of the wall - they get kinda lost. So next year I will try something a little bolder.
It's hard to see but I have a bleeding heart, some garden fern, huchera, tiarella and a bunch of hostas along with a few seedlings that should be showy next year (Astilbe, toad lilies and an annabelle hydrangea bush that I am crossing my fingers and toes that it grows!). I did a couple of annuals in front - verbena (which I LOVE) and some new guinea impatiens.
I'm trying to remember, NB warned you about harming your tree roots, right? Iirc you didn't mind if it came down. Watch it carefully for falling branches or just get it taken out now. Dying trees can be really dangerous.
We have someone coming out on Sat to give us a price on removing the two large trees in that corner. I just hope the process doesn't ruin the new garden. We are at least going to take down a bunch of the limbs.

Love the way it turned out! The wall really adds a lot to the space. Good job. Don't worry like I said back on the nest the Annabelle varieties are the most reliable hydrangea choice for colder climates like ours. All three of mine are looking like they will be putting on a nice show this year.
Just keep an eye on the forget me nots. In ideal conditions they can spread a lot. I have a pink version that hasn't spread yet (I've had it for 2 years) but I know people in my garden club who have had the blue version spread all over their woods.
