What do I wear?

I'm sure I'm overthinking this. I'll be job shadowing in another department next month. We'll be going and giving a talk at a local community center. The person I'm shadowing with insists jeans are fine but I feel weird wearing jeans to a speaking event. At the same time I don't want to overdress. Help!

I agree with business casual.

Business casual, black pants or skirt and something with color on top. I always err on the side of overdressing a little.

Agree. And I'd rather be overdressed than underdressed, especially in a work situation.

When I am speaking in front of a group, I will wear a structured jacket...sometimes over a pair of jeans. A structured jacket gives me the illusion of authority and I feel more put together.
