When did you start giving your baby regular food? DD is 8 months and she's a great eater. I've been giving her mostly single ingredient vegetable and fruit purees. She also eats small pieces of stuff like chicken, fish, banana, cheese. I'm kind of getting sick of doing the 3 days between new stuff and single ingredient stuff and I guess I wonder if she is old enough to just start giving her normal food, like pieces of our dinner that might include a few different ingredients at a time.

I want to say around 12 months? I think by then I would take what we were having for dinner and just sort of cut/mush it up/puree it.
noodleoo we were definitely giving DS combo foods, and not waiting 3 days before introducing new foods by the time DS was 8 months. He never showed any sensitivity to any food we had introduced to him by that point, so we kind of just went with it.

We stopped doing the 3 day rule around 8.5-9 months once we'd gotten past all the potential major allergens (nuts, peanuts, dairy, egg, shellfish). Around then we'd just give her bits of whatever I found in the fridge or off our plate. She LOVES it.
Totally random unimportant question--what is the point of the bumper stickers that say "this car climbed mount Washington"? Is it genuinely difficult to drive up it or is this some shtick joke thing that took off? Like I said, not important, but I see them all the time!

I think around twelve months we stopped doing anything single-ingredient and just let them eat whatever we were eating.
If your kid has ever done a round of Augmentin, were there any side effects? DD has never been on antibiotics, but she needs the twice daily, 10 day round of Augmentin for an eye infection and possible ear infection. I just read too many Baby Center threads on violent vomiting and diarrhea so I'm coming here for a reality check. Is it really that bad? Also, I assume I should flavor this at the pharmacy so I have some hope of her taking it, yes?

niq, as quietly as possible, or in the bathroom with the shower running.
What would you do if your MIL bought your child a new dresser without showing you what she chose first? And it's already set to be delivered? This is a pattern with my MIL - her buying stuff without asking for style/color preferences.
How do you have sex on vacation with a small child? Asking for a friend...
It's possible! This baby was conceived while on vacation with DH's immediate family (6 total people) in a small 3 bedroom cabin. Our room was right outside the kitchen and living area too. You have your child sleep in the PnP in the bathroom, you get busy on the floor (so the bed doesn't creek) and you have very quiet and very quick business sex. We managed to be successful every morning, every nap, and every night this way. And well......I'm now 8 months pregnant!
ETA: Not every morning now that I think of it. Just some of them. But every nap and bedtime.

Augmentin is pretty powerful, and it's a combo drug (two antibiotics in one). I've never heard of it being given to help an eye infection (did they give you drops too in addition to the oral med?), but they could be trying to cover a lot of bases with it.
It can cause a metallic taste in your mouth, so food might not taste the same while they're on it. Also, you should make sure to give them yogurt or probiotics to combat the belly issues.

With a very small child in the room I think you just wait until their sound asleep. I think generally speaking sex while traveling with children is very curtailed unless you have your own bedroom.

We gave up on the single ingredient stuff after a month. At first I just did combos that had only one unknown, but now I'm living more dangerously. When we introduce eggs/nuts etc I'll be more cautious.
picksthemusic, I was sort of surprised as well. H took her to the pedi this morning for what we thought was pink eye. Pedi said it's "probably pink eye", but he also noticed some goop in her ear and said she might be getting an ear infection, too. No drops, just the oral. She and I had both been sick for a while back in December and I was worried about an EI, but the pedi wasn't worried at that point and she seemed to get better. Whatever I had persisted and I just finished Augmentin for sinus stuff. Hopefully it will clear everything up, but I do worry about giving her something stronger than necessary.
For those who have flown with a car seat, can you recommend your car seat bag? I can't decide whether to go cheap or get the nice padded one. I'd hate for the car seat to get damaged but the padded bags seem so big and bulky.

We stopped with the 3 day rule by 7 mo, though we paid extra attention after introducing potential allergens (nuts; dairy; eggs; etc). Partly that was because we fed her lots of pouches that had multiple ingredients and spices, and I was too lazy to wait or stick to single ingredients.
By 8-9 mo we were definitely giving pieces of our dinner, and lots of multi-ingredient dishes. She really liked a curry lentil puree that I got from wholesomebabyfood, though it was about that age when she started rejecting purees altogether, so we gave her lots of finger food options. You can definitely get more adventurous at her age!

Sounds like my mom. Mostly, I just accept it. Something less for me to buy/spend money on. But my mom has nice taste. I am assuming your MIL does not?
No, she usually gets it right - she does have good taste. I think it's the whole not showing/asking me if I like it part that I have a problem with. But you're right - I am grateful I didn't have to shell out $200 for a dresser.

We've flown multiple times with the JL Childress gate check bag (that's not the padded one; it's a foldable red bag) and had zero problems. But we always gate check (partly because we always ask about extra seats on the flight since DD is still a lap baby), and we fly with a cheap car seat (Cosco Scenera). The gate check bag is nice because it folds up, and we can wheel DD around the airport (I figured out how to attach the car seat to our travel stroller) which makes flying a lot easier. One time we flew with our City Mini and I bought the fancy, expensive padded bag to protect it; it was a total hassle to cart it around while traveling.

I went with this padded one. We've used it to gate check both a Chicco KeyFit and a cheapie Cosco Scenera travel convertible with no issues.
If you put a non-walking infant in a dress, what do you put on their feet (assuming warm-ish temps)? Just socks, or should I actually buy "shoes"? She would wear this to daycare which requires foot coverage.

I get the irritation, and I imagine for some people they'd find it disrespectful. But trust me, I totally get the irritation. When my parents lived with us during their remodel for a year, I'd come home daily to something new my mom bought for my house. My mild mannered husband got PISSED my dad hung up clocks all over our house. In their mind, they were helping us out thinking we either couldn't afford the things my mom bought for us or had no time to shop for and put clocks up. The idea that we, deliberately, do not purchase a lot of things was just baffling to them and caused a lot of conflict.
But, both of their actions come from a good place and in the end, if it's something I did need, I tend to just let it go now. I figure in a few years, if it doesn't match what I want, then I'll resell it and buy something new and they've given me a monetary leg up to buying something I'd like. XD It's eased a lot of conflict and has made me less annoyed.

Trumpette socks that look like shoes are so cute for this purpose.

Ds is "sensitive" to augmentin, he threw up every time we gave it to him. Which made me nervous that he was going to get really dehydrated. After a few days we asked the dr for something else. I think it was cefdinir, it worked great and has been our antibiotic of choice since.

Maybe just wait a day between likely allergen stuff (strawberries, etc)

My kid takes his socks off in about half a second and then happily crawls around with them in his mouth...so I'd do shoes or something like those Zutano booties.

We did cheap Amazon whatever bag. It was fine, we gate checked.
