I've always had long hair and I'm starting to get tired of it. I'm over 35 and do wonder if it's too young for me?
I never wear it down because I have a lot of hair, it's really heavy and it just gets in my face and bothers me. When I do wear it down, I do something like this (but my hair is much wavier and I don't have bangs):
I really want this hairstyle, but I think it's going to be too much work to blow dry/straighten everyday.
Any suggestions on other quick but professional hairstyles? Or should I just leave it long?
I have curly hair and I just cut it short for the first time. Short to me is above my shoulders.. It's just to my shoulders and I wear it curly much easier to style for me because I don't have as much hair.
I think a bob will only be more work if you plan on blowing it out every day or something. For curly/wavy style, I just use my deva clips let those give me some natural volume and then let it air dry. I will dry with a diffuser if I don't have time to let it air dry.
I don't remember my bob being that high maintenance when I had it.
Is your hair naturally straight or wavy?
Good point. I totally forgot that you had mentioned you had wavy hair until mrsguz mentioned it in her post above. Mine is kind of unruly wavy if that makes any sense. Like I just rolled out of bed wavy as opposed any defined curls or an actual wave to it if I don't sit there and round brush or use a straightener on it.
I recently cut 8" off and now have a "long bob" or a "lob", anyway there are tons of pics on Pinterest with that length. I love it. It's a little longer in front, shorter in back. It's super versatile to style and wear different ways, and long enough for a ponytail.

I used to have tons of thick, wavy hair and have had it every length and style in the book. Some lengths and styles were easier than others but the bottom line is that it's a high maintenance type of hair. A really good cut helps a ton, no matter the length. It honestly sounds like your current cut isn't great. I'm almost 34 and don't feel too old for long hair so don't let your age define your hair. If you like having long hair search for a great stylist and explain your concerns about your current cut to them- I guarantee a good stylist can fix it. If you're bored and want something different bring the bob idea in but let the stylist make it work for your hair's texture.

I think you are right, I do have high maintenance hair! I have a lot of it and every hair style seems to be a lot of work (aside from it drying naturally, which I don't love!).
Do you have a style/length that you particularly like?

[/quote] Like I said, it's going to be high maintenance no matter what because of the type so it's about finding a length that makes you happy and getting a great cut. I'm obviously partial to longer hair with long layers because it curls easily but I can throw it in a ponytail or bun when I'm in the kitchen and it looks good and doesn't need a bunch of bobby-pins to stay back. If you're in the Denver area j can recommend a couple of stylists or I'm sure that others on the board can recommend based on your location.
I feel like I need to invoke @natariru here. Chopping off thick, wavy hair can be a very bad idea and you could regret it.
Your best bet is to listen to gringachef on this one. My stylist will often "thin" my hair out a bit when he cuts the layers in, which makes it much easier to manage. I've got thick, naturally curly/wavy hair that I have to style daily if I wear it down, and even wearing it "natural" requires product and coaxing to make it look good.
The right cut makes all the difference and cuts down on drying/styling time.
