Anal Sac-GSD

Ok I know this is not the most glamorous of topics, but I think my GSD has either an anal sac infection or they are impacted or something. I can tell she is uncomfortable, and I took a look it looks like some of it is protruding/swollen. I am not sure what is the best course of action, and sorry if this is gross to read

I have not seen pus, blood, tears or anything like that. 

Do people usually treat this at home or take their dog to the vet? She hasn't had this problem before and there is a lot of butt licking/chewing and scooting going on. Some people, online, have said using a strong antiseptic spray and wipe can help it, but again first time problem for me.

I would definitely get her to the vet for impacted anal sacs- she'll probably need to have it drained and get a round of antibiotics. I don't rush to the vet for silly things- but, anal sacs are so beyond pleasant to deal with and she'll be comfortable faster if you let the vet deal with them.

I'm glad I took her in, it was infected and ulcerated so they cleaned her up (+ antibiotics and pain meds) and she is now in a cone of shame, but she seems to be feeling better!
