I'm missing the bag gene. I don't care for 99% of expensive bags. The two I carry the most are a Whipping Post tote and a Fossil tote.
And this one that looks a lot uglier in the picture than in person:
That said, the only designer bag I have loved is the Birkin. I like the size and shape. Maybe I should get on a list now so that one might potentially be available when I graduate with my next degree (years from now) that will require a bag that holds a laptop, files, etc.
My bag is two years old and I bought it at Sam's. I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze the extra cash to have a concert date night. There is no way I could own a Birkin
I thought you were saying you got the Birkin at Sam's Club and I was all "Oh, dear. Does she not realize she got a knockoff?" Then i realized what you were actually saying!
I think many people in the market for Birkins, Kellys et al don't necessarily need to have something brand new - especially if they are focused on a certain style/color/leather type per Elle's earlier post - so the wait list in-store isn't an issue. Two good sites for authenticated consignment sales - Hermes and other brands (plus watches, accessories etc) if anyone is looking to go down the rabbit hole:
and purse forum.com has a long-running thread by a poster called Docride who restores vintage Hermes bags for a living, and is very generous with advice on whether a potential purchase is salvageable or not.
I want an Evelyne so badly. I had never really considered this bag until I saw one in person in bright green. It was completely stunning in real life and looked like no other bag I had ever seen. I was trying to convince DH that I should buy one (pre-loved) but he doesn't love the big "H" on the bag. So I got a pre-loved Chanel anniversary reissue black/GHW in mint condition instead Not nearly as practical but gorgeous nonetheless.
If we are talking about bags as investments, classic Chanel flaps are good "investments" as well. I know that I paid more for my 10 year old bag than the original owner paid for it back in 2005

The "H" is supposed to be worn against your body. So no one sees it. It's meant to air out the horse tools so they can dry. No one actually does that but it's an easy fix to the H.

I just got myself the Evelyne III for "Christmas" (why not?) and I got it in the most amazing color; juane poussin or baby chick yellow. I LOVE it. And I hang a scarf off the side and it looks amazing!
I have been coveting a 40 Birkin in Blue Electrique for a while and tried to get one on Podium for a bit. Let's see.. I hear the Wall Street store is better than Madison in NYC but who knows?
I put all sorts of scratches and dings on my cars.
But that doesn't mean I don't understand luxury cars.
If you've got the money, why not?
Exactly. They're just both not for me. I'd spill beer in my Birkin (yes, I've done that to a brand new bag before and I was not even the one drinking the beer) and scratch the Porsche all over.
Although if I had enough money not to care, I'd still get them and buy new ones if I ruined them.
