I don't post a ton or anything like that but I still wanted to say I'm sorry this happened to anyone and I hope whoever did it is found since it's such a violation and just so wrong. I'm sorry anyone is having to go through this.
I guess the question is even if you CAN delete past posts right now, why would you? Ellie took the action and made the announcement for a reason. If you aren't involved directly in this, just sit back and cool your heels on your "regular practice of deleting" for a day or two, no?
We all saw your gifs and shitty ass comments. You're not fooling anyone.
Yeah, I don't get it. Deleting now looks really shady. Eye roll that Toledo deleted everything from almost a year ago EXCEPT for one post in August where she called stellas out on a racist comment. I'm sure she'll be in momentarily to set me straight.

I deleted my past posts on January 25. I have not deleted any since then. I have not participated in, nor would I ever participate in, any off board retaliatory bullshit. I have stated repeatedly that I am not okay with that kind of thing and find it scary as fuck.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. I call bullshit on anyone being afraid of @kirkette other than fucking @booby. And all @booby had to do was STOP FUCKING HARASSING KIRKETTE AND BOOM SHE WAS NO LONGER AT RISK.
--------------------
Stepping back from my initial WTF reaction, if you really were fearful based on what kirkette was saying, then maybe that's a personal issue for you to work through off of the board. There's nothing wrong with that, and I'm speaking as someone who is often terrified of the responses I might get on here - I'm talking just verbal, public responses - I'm terrified because of my own issues stemming from my childhood. And that's mine to deal with, as much as I wish it wasn't.
I see why people would have a legitimate reason for deleting posts right now. If you've posted identifying info, or info you don't want used against you IRL, it is not unreasonable to want to remove it now that we know the practice of crossing the line and targeting people IRL has resumed. Of course, it is not helpful because the person who sent the dicks is probably doing the same, and until that person is identified ProBoards did exactly the right thing by preventing everyone from deleting in order to preserve evidence, but I think it is disingenuous to say that there is no good reason to delete right now.

I could maybe kind of understand that. BUT, these same posters also have pictures in their profiles and signatures showing them. So, I guess I'm not really buying the whole deleting for personal protection business. But, what do I know?

But it's not identifying info. It's stuff that was flip/demeaning/etc. re: Kirkette. Look: there are a bunch of posts I am tempted to go "unlike" because I am ashamed of myself for having joined that bandwagon. But it seems incredibly disrespectful to worry about one's own image/security/whatever after this all went down.Â
Way to really reflect and internalize how the actions of this board have affected others OH WAIT YOU JUST MADE IT ABOUT YOU.
This is not the first time people have been targeted IRL here. This is the NASTIEST time - and I will say that as someone who was once slandered to her employer by an anonymous email from someone on the Nest. But it is not the first time, so it is not realistic to say that non-POC don't have a reason to be afraid, because in the past, the crazy has not been race based.
Until we know who did it, I don't think it is crazy for everyone to be afraid. Because if it was not Boobie- and for the record, I think it was but we don't know that for certain- but if it was not, then the person who did it did so knowing perfectly well Booby would be blamed.
OBVIOUSLY it depends on what is being deleted, and whether the people deleting have other identifying info in their bios, but frankly, I am not sure how the rest of you can tell who is deleting and if so, what is being deleted. To be clear- I think people should refrain from deleting and i think pro board is right to stop it. But that doesn't mean people are crazy for being afraid.
ETA: And someone mentioned it doesn't matter if you have a pic in your avatar or sig, but I'm not worried about being found, I just wouldn't want to be found and have whoever be able to read everything I've ever said on here. I mean, we talk about sex, relationships, poo, etc.
God help the person who ever reads my entire post history. I apologize in advance.
I've been OOT in the boonies (read - no service) and am just now catching up and picking my jaw up off the floor.
This is truly disgusting and I hope whoever did this gets what's coming to them because you are a vile creature, not worthy of being included as a member of the human race.
As for all of the deleting, well, people who have nothing to hide, hide nothing.
I can't believe what has gone down here in the past few days (although yes, it started long before that). @kirkette , you didn't deserve that treatment. No one does. I'm glad (although that's not the right word) it finally came to a head and hopefully we're now down a few assholes. formerlysmo , omg. What a violation. I hope the board and whatever authorities are necessary are able figure out who did it. That person needs to face legal consequences.

I'm dying laughing at Toledo deleting, because I've taken note of more sly antics from her in the race threads over the past year or so than anyone else. So many. The BLM marathon thread, the one about the little white kid who was counting black kids, discussions about PC language, last week's posts, etc. I could go on. And she has most definitely made reference to both KOKO and I being hostile or shrill, which, true or not, is just astoundingly rich coming from The Angriest Woman on the Internet. Lol. It's ok though. At least I only pop off about things that I understand.
Her willingness to change position or walk back her comments is fine. However, let's all consider for a moment that in threads about race, this is considered the discourse of the best and brightest ML has to offer while wandering and I, two black women with more doctoral degrees between us than the next 30+ white commenters, are relegated to shouting from the kid's table. If that's not objective proof that your views and intelligence are being dismissed out of hand, then I don't know what is. What's the saying? Twice as good to get the same thing, or even half as much? Well I'm a young black woman in science...I have a lot of experience with being the smartest person in the room, and spend a good chunk of my day listening to people who don't know wtf they're talking (and talking, and talking) about. I'm salty as hell about that, AND that the word salty is no longer cool. It's so useful and descriptive. Anyway, just wait and see if she waltzes back through anytime soon pretending to be all detached and above it all like she did at the end of Stellas' drama. We saw that too. Messy as hell.
And on a lighter note, I'm actually here to find out who is responsible for this scene from my backyard, taken not two days ago. The timing is suspicious given current events and my recent posts about being relatively safe from the geese down the street.

i'm legitimately laughing at the mental image of you taking that pic through the window of your safely locked house. i'm sorry for the trauma this has brought back up for you, 05heel .
I really wish this one wasn't upside down, but this is one I took hiding behind my screened porch and deck. Then I realized that you couldn't see shit so I had to get brave and go to an actual window. The little feathers and neck are right in the center.

I'm imagining her peeking through the closed blinds with a wary eye.
No clue, but I still say "that's the bomb.com" so I'm no authority.
I said the sentence "Germany thought the usage of unrestricted submarine warfare was the bomb.com/awesome" to my class and four of my NICEST kids yelled out "Ms. WTF, no. STOP."
