Feels like it was a quick month! Lots of January birthdays, so it's been a busy one for me! (DH, my mom and a bunch of friends celebrated this month)!
Weekend was really nice! Friday mornings I teach Zumba, and then I baked with a friend all day. We are making some things ahead of time for her birthday party on Feb 19 :-) She's traveling the next two weekends, so we decided to bake now. We made her cake and some mozzarella stuffed pretzels. Yum!
Then I went out with friends to my favorite hangout spot, Jazz at Lincoln Center. It was great and the musicians are always fantastic Saturday I was supposed to go to the store, but felt like being lazy instead :-P So I did that, and went to the store after work last night!
QOTD: Our next trip is to the US, NYC to be exact. My sister had a baby in December, so we're going to meet my nephew. Also planning to do other fun NY things (not my first trip, so probably just a show, and lots of good food and drinks)! We're going at the end of Feb so I hope it's not too cold!!!!

I know. January seems to have flown by! Today is my parents' 47th anniversary. I'll call them when it's a more decent time in the US. But I was sneaky and posted a few pictures from their wedding on Facebook. It's also a childhood friend's birthday today, and I just found out this weekend she gave birth to a son on Christmas Day, so I'll have to get a card/gift off to her. She had been trying since 1998 for a baby so I know he is very welcome.
My weekend was pretty easy, housework and reading. DH and I finished the English version of House of Cards so we're ready to binge on the US version. We're both a bit interested in how they are handling it. I'm not sure the plot will translate as easily. The original book was re-written to match the English version, and I hear an updated version was written to match the US version. DH's mother has the original book, and I bought the updated UK version when it was on sale on Kindle, and now we're looking for the updated US version.
QOTD: My next big trip is in September/October. I'm headed to Canada for a cruise from Ville Quebec and then I'm going to spend some time in New Orleans visiting family and voting in person. I'm hoping DH can come join me in NO, but we'll see how that goes. For our next little trip, we're having an overnight in Melbourne in April for my Christmas present (tickets to see The Proclaimers) and e're thinking of a weekend away in Ballarat or Bendigo with DH's BFF and her wife.
Had a lazy weekend overall (compared to others). Friday night we went out to dinner and then I came home to sleep while my H went out dancing with two female friends (who were with us for dinner - I was invited but too tired). Saturday, I had a field hockey match and we basically just lazed around. Sunday, we went to the house to do a snag list and then in the evening, went to a pub quiz night.
QOTD: our next big trip is skiing in March at Chamonix, France

Morning (or afternoon or evening)!
I didn't do too much on the weekend. I had to go into work on Saturday for open day. It's a day when high school students come in to check out the university for possible studies. There are info sessions and tables with information on each major / minor. The head of the department wanted different people there and baked goods as well. I made vanilla bean cupcakes with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream. I was a little annoyed because I had to go in early, but I was even more annoyed when I got home on 8 PM Friday night when I saw a letter from our landlord that an electrician was coming early 8.30 AM. I wanted to sleep in a bit since I didn't have to go in too early for work, but then I wasn't able to. The landlord gave us 12 hours notice. Grrrr.
I just did errands and relaxed the rest of the weekend. DH is away with his brother for a week and a half. I have to say I'm kind of enjoying it. It's nice and clean and quiet. It's also nice to have the whole bed. I guess this makes me a bad wife.
QOTD: Our next trip is Rome in March with my mom. We are also thinking of going to Austria for X-country skiing. But if anything that will be a spur of the moment trip.
Saturday I put together an IKEA storage cabinet and we had dinner with UnderProtest and family. We also learned (I use that term loosely in my case) to play euchre, LOL.
It was cold here and my kids' weekend stuff was cancelled at the last minute so we just bummed around and cleaned.
QOTD: we're going to Da Nang on Thursday. I've done almost no research because I've been so busy with other stuff. In fact I only realized late last week we need a visa for vietnam. Oops. Thankfully that was easy. I'm slacking on the trip planning job.
I also spent 3.5 hours on the phone with airlines over our tix back to the U.S. this summer. I have been watching the prices. They dropped a little so I went to buy them. The flight I want (Delta) is a code share on korean air and we have FF accounts for both. If I bought on KA's website it was ~$150 cheaper. So I went to do that and then thankfully called to check first how many FF miles we'd get. Answer is zero. So back to Delta's site. Go to buy and they don't do kids' discounts online; I have to call. It takes 2 hours for them to find the fare I saw on their own website. Another 30 min to figure out the kids discount. And then I spent an additional 30 min demanding complimentary Comfort+ upgrades because I was so tired and pissed at how long this all took. It was worth it because I saved $800. Now I need domestic tix to drop so I don't squander all those savings on an overpriced flight to see my ILs.
Our weekend was pretty good, though we didn't do much. Today we attempted to walk to the post office and I made it halfway there before giving up and turning home. Pretty good considering I had a c-section 2 weeks ago.
QOTD: We will hop over to Vancouver sometime in early April to register DD at the US consulate. I have a friend who works there, and she's given us all the paperwork to fill out. It looks fairly simple. Has anyone else done this? @villainv, do I remember correctly that you registered C at the embassy back when you lived in the UK?
loira, good memory! Yep, we took 4-wk old C on the train to London :-). The embassy website had all the info we needed -- forms to download, what we needed to bring with us (forms of ID for H and I, method of payment, etc). I think we even booked the appointment on the website. I remember it being a lot of forms, but pretty straight forward. The appointment took maybe 90 minutes, and we for his passport in the mail about 2 weeks later.
The worst part was that between the train, can, and waiting room, I hadn't been able to nurse C very well (he was distracted) and I became engorged. Of course there were several other families at the embassy doing the same thing, so I was engorged and in a waiting room full of crying babies at 4 weeks PP. Not fun!
