I've been reading about the whole "third piece" concept and I'm trying to figure out how it could work for me. It seems like a lot of the time the third piece is a layer but that sounds oppressive lol! Other third pieces I see are scarves or bold jewelry. I would like to pick up a scarf or two but my taste in jewelry is very minimalist. What third pieces do you use?
Ok after googling it, it depends on the weather, and my hair. Like in the summer I look cute in a fedora, or in the winter I like layers. I'm sure all the other S&B ladies will have good ideas. Also I think gringachef does that look really well.
I'm big on jackets, blazers and vests any time of year. I have tons of them in various fabrics and weights. I've been living in my Zara suede overshirts this winter and feel like I wear my denim jacket nearly every day in the warmer months. Zara, Jcrew, BR and Nordstrom and express are my go-to places to shop for jackets and Blazers. I love the way scarves look but I have a hard time wearing them all day because I'm constantly on the move and they make me too hot. @carylee and @natariru are also great with third piece/ accessory use. Eta: I responded before I saw your tag bina- thanks for thinking of me:)
Scarves and sweaters for sure. I also will wear shirts under dresses (like in today's ootd).
Although I like jackets, I find it hard sometimes to find the right fit that won't either take over or hide my shape too much. I thus go for more of a cardigan or "softer" jacket, often because I'm too lazy to find jackets that fit, lol.

in cooler months, i LOVE a chunky scarf or a quilted vest. in fact, sometimes i feel weird JUST wearing a top and leggings or pants, lol
in the spring, i like lighter weight scarves. by the time summer rolls around, i'm sweating my balls off and just wear as little clothing as possible with 37 bracelets, lol
The third piece can be a statement accessory. My statement accessories include embellished shoes, pewter cuff, turquoise stone necklace, long tigers' eye beads, chandelier earrings, scarves, tooled belts and hair combs. My office is an icebox so I am usually in a layering piece as well...typically a structured blazer or long cardigan.
