I don't recall it being much worse than a pap smear. Maybe a pap smear on a bad day. Not nothin', but not bad. I recall it took a while to get results. I don't remember too much else only because it just wasn't that bad. (TMI I don't know if it makes a difference in the procedure, but I was bleeding at the time.)
I'm having one on Monday. Not thrilled about the wording they used when talking to me about it, so I've managed to freak myself out about it, so I recommend staying away from google.
They told me just to take some ibuprofen or something beforehand and make sure I go get blood drawn for a pregnancy test early that morning.
Is this the same thing as a colposcopy? Because if so, I thought it hurt. Sorry! Takes something before if you can. It felt like someone took a hole puncher to the inside of me. Which I guess, they did.
The first time I had it done I almost passed out. The second time I was terrified, but it didn't hurt as bad (different doctor). So, YMMV?

Colposcopy is a cervical biopsy. For the endometrial they biopsy the lining of your uterus.
The other part of the exam was fine but when she grabbed the sample it hurt like crazy. I am not one to even react to pain too much in front of doctors, and I love my OB-GYN but I kind of yelped "What was THAT?" and she said "I'm so sorry, I have the sample now." It hurt a lot just for that couple of seconds she took the sample. After that was just achy but Ibuprofen handled that for me. :Y:
I felt like I could feel where they took the sample from (the spot) for the next day or two. It was kind of weird.
All in all, though, much better than some other medical stuff I've had done. I'm talking to you, barium enema and EMG!
My experience was like an intense pap smear. Some cramping, a few sharp pinches and that's it. Very quick. My doctor told me to take 800mg ibuprofen an hour before the procedure, and I'm glad I did. Definitely wear a liner for after. I had some spotting and mild cramping for the rest of the day.
However, I had scar tissue on my cervix from having precancerous cheap removed. She couldn't get the tool through to get the biopsy, and that was insanely painful, but I don't think I'm the norm. (I heard the scar tissue snap/break one she finally pushed her way through.)
The tool in the uterus was super uncomfortable and crampy, minor cramping and spotting after, but nothing I couldn't deal with.

Thanks. Over the past few years I've had a LEEP, cryosurgery and ablation (all preceded by minor procedures) and I couldn't remember what was for what. I do not believe I've had the endometrial biopsy, so OP, please disregard my comments.

I responded in the middle of class, so I hope I didn't come off bitchy.
I won't lie, it was far worse than I anticipated and my dr kept apologizing saying some women handle it better. It was pretty intense pain for about 45 seconds maybe. Traumatizing enough that I opted to go in for inpatient for my ablation than in office.

I haven't had one, but have watched several. They seem quite painful. The pain doesn't last long (the actual biopsy takes a minute or less), but the cramping can get pretty bad during. I would take 4 ibuprofen an hour before. Good luck!
Mine was horrible but he had to use a hook to pull my uterus down a bit. My husband has been in the room for all of my IF procedures and he could tell this was the worst one. Sorry
I had one over the summer. I was expecting the worst since a previous sonohysterogram was one of the most painful experiences of my life,* but it wasn't bad at all. The moment he took the sample hurt somewhat, but I expected something more painful to come. I didn't even get to take the advil prior because they were able to take me about a half hour early and I was fine. I could have gone back to work after, but I already had the time off.
*It helped a lot that my RE was able to navigate past my cervix much easier than when I had the shg. (That was the most painful part thanks to a tilted uterus.)
I stood up in the stirrups, and the nurse had to push me back down. It hurt like hell. It was over fast, and just crampy the rest of the day. No one else I know had such an extreme reaction, but I hadn't had a baby at the time. Or maybe I'm just a wuss.

Ugh I'm sorry! My doctor did my annual today and said my cervical opening is very small so he gave me medicine that should dilate me a little. I'm nervous as fuck!
I had 2. One hurt like a mutha: I saw stars swirling over my head like some toon. The other was merely excruciating. On the plus side, it's over quickly. Once the procedure is done, it's over.
I had one in the middle of my hellish IUD insertion. It hurt but at that point everything hurt. I do recommend you take Ibuprofen an hour before your appointment. The thing about pain is staying ahead of it. This helps for dentist appointments too, if you ever wondered

We should have started with that. She tried once, gave me something to dilate me, made me wait an hour and then tried again. It was still pretty horrible.
It'll be okay - it's not the best experience, but it's mostly over quickly and the pain doesn't last too long once it's done.

Miserable. I cried and screamed and then bled for two days and the doctor basically acted like I was a giant pussy. They said I should take 2 ibuprofen before the procedure. I might as well have eaten skittles. .
