I tell DD to get to bed. I will let her read books in bed at naptime, quietly, but the rule is that she has to stay in bed. If I see her get up on the video monitor, I tell her pretty firmly, through the door, to get back in bed. I think, honestly, she is freaked out that I "know" what she's up to because she jumps right back in bed and usually goes to sleep. We've also had a lot of luck playing "sleepy music" at naptime (instrumental lullabies). She's the same age as your son, I think, and naptime is still going strong over here.
Dd1 stopped napping shortly after she moved to a bed at 2yrs 4 months. Dd2 has quit weekend naps at the same age even though she's still in her crib.
Your ds is around that age too, if I remember rightly? Fall 2013 birthday?
Yes October 2013. This is not what I wanted to hear.
Sorry... Dd2 is Oct 2013 too. She hasn't napped at home since Christmas and naps in crèche are hit or miss. She sleeps well at night so I take comfort in that...

September 2013 here. Sometimes he sleeps. Sometimes he plays. Sometimes he plays until he falls asleep under his bed. When we are home I let him play so long as he stays in his room and leaves me alone. At this point his naps are about my sanity, not his.

DD is in her room for 2 hours. She naps or doesn't, I don't care as long as she stays in there. I keep an ear on the monitor and check the video if I hear something suspicious.
We did exactly the same routine. They both got out of bed a few times the first week, but putting them back in bed and reminding them not to get out at sleeping times was enough. (Their doors were baby gated so they couldn't go far anyway.)
And to give you some hope, DS still naps sometimes and he's going to be 5 in May, and my 3yo DD naps daily.
We have a video monitor that we can talk through. The first few naps were fine, and then she figured out she didn't actually need us to get her out of bed. Once that happened we had a few days of talking through the monitor and telling her she had to go lay down multiple times but she eventually would give in. We've only had a few times of no nap since we started at Christmas. DD is a Nov 13 baby, so about the same age.
Not going to lie, it was a rough transition, but we kept at it and he still naps. He's just now getting to the point where weekend naps are optional but if you want him to nap, he may not be done yet.
beans20,I used to let my 5 year old nap in my bed when we moved him to a toddler bed at about that age. He loved it because he thought he was such a big boy. Sometimes, I would lay in my bed with him until he fell asleep and he thought we were napping together.
Also, there were a lot of days that we just happened to be in the car around nap time and he fell asleep. He also transfers easily to bed so this was common, lol.
