Yeah, I think the Jewish (and atheist!) thing is actually cool. Of course that is another knock on electability in the general, but still. I do think he has gotten shortchanged on the historic aspect of his candidacy as well.
I don't think he's atheist. He implied he might be but then said he believed in god and just didn't do organized religion.
Actually, this could get interesting if the Bernie camp plays its cards right. Isn't there a strong pro-Jewish revival, of sorts, among some Evangelicals (see, for example, some of the Duggar girls wearing Star of David necklaces.) If the election was Trump-Sanders, I wonder if there'd be a way for Bernie to leverage some of the religious vote given the fact that Trump's obviously not very religious (and could even be spun as anti-religious with the gambling empire.)
Wasn't there a study cited here a few days ago that whereas 5% of people polled said they would never vote for a female candidate, 6% said they'd never vote for a Jewish candidate?
I do agree that his success could also be momentous because of his religion.
